Adenomatoid tumour of the epididymis: histochemical and ultrastructural study of 2 cases.

Two cases of adenomatoid tumour of the epididymis are described. Both the histochemical and ultrastructural studied support the concept that it is of mesothelial origin. The histochemical study showed the presence of acid mucopolysaccharides in the lumen of the tubular structures. The epithelial cells presented numerous microvilli in the free surface, junction complexes, wide intercellular channels and a well-developed Golgi complex. Abundant bundles of microfilaments and intracellular spaces were observed in the cytoplasm. Lymphocytes and histiocytes were identified both in the tubular lumen and between the epithelial cells. The stroma of the tumour was made up of dense connective tissue with abundant bundles of elastic fibres. The presence of intracytoplasmic spaces in the epithelial cells and elastic fibres in the stroma had not been previously observed in this tumour.

[Congenital monomorph adenoma of the parotid gland (author's transl)].

Congenital monomorph tubular adenoma is a very infrequent tumor. Usually diagnosis is an operative finding. Together with its' infrequency, rapid rate of growth, differential diagnosis with other vascular tumors, specially cystic lymphangioma, and its surgical excision avoiding lesion of the facial nerve, account for this publication.

[Histochemical diagnosis in pediatric rectal suction biopsies (author's transl)].

Between March 1972 and Dec. 1974 532 rectal suction biopsies were obtained from 238 children and histochemical processed. Slight haemorrhage was observed in three. Indications were :1) Group A, 185 suspected aganglionism (AChE. and DPNH) activities were studied). 2) Group B, 7 Neurolipidoses (Red-oil-o) and 3) Group C, Post-operative control in 10 aganglionic patients (AChE, DPNH). Aganglionism was confirmed in 60 cases (25.2%) of Group A [AChE (+), DPNH (-)] although there were five false negatives (8.3%). Lipidosis was confirmed in one case of Group B. Four patients in Group C were AChE and DPNH (+). Results are discussed, and this technique recommended taking in mind its minimal morbidity, simplicity and good results.

[Tumors of the endodermal sinus (author's transl)].

Seven cases of tumors of the endodermal sinus are reviewed. This is a highly malignant germinal tumor, arisen from extraembrionary cell differentiation. It is different both biologically and pathologically from sacrocoxigeal teratoma. There are no survivors in these series. All seven patients have been surgically treated chemotherapy has been used in four, and X-ray therapy in two. It is noteworthy that alpha-phetoprotein is present in patients with this type of tumor. This fact can be used both in diagnosis of the tumor and of its recurrence.
