Leydig cell tumor in identical twin.

A case is presented of an identical twin who had an interstitial cell tumor of the testis removed, and comparison is made with his identical brother over an ensuing six-year period. The dramatic effects of the interstitial cell tumor are clearly shown in the comparison of the two males over this six-year period. To our knowledge this is the only such case in the world literature.

Use of methenamine hippurate in male infertility.

In sperm-freezing for infertility patients with low sperm counts, we found that semen containing high numbers of white blood cells, greater than 15 to 20 per high-power field, was both poor in quality and difficult to freeze. In examining these patients carefully, we found that many had smoldering prostatitis and some an overt history of prostatitis. We treated them with methenamine hippurate using various methods and found that by decreasing the white blood cell count in their semen, we could frequently improve the semen quality, particularly sperm motility, also achieve pregnancies in some cases.

Urinary tract infections in the adult. The Postgraduate Medicine Lecture.

Diagnosis of urinary tract infection should be made only on the basis of complete evidence. Examination and culture of the urine are necessary steps in correct diagnosis and treatment. Urinary obstruction is almost always present in recurrent infections. Contributory factors include sex practices conducive to entry of bacteria, poor perineal hygiene, occupations that require long periods of driving or riding, chronic constipation, and use of oral contraceptives, tampons, and douches. Many antibacterial drugs are effective in eliminating infection. Contributing factors should be modified or eliminated to prevent recurrence.
