[Anatomy of intradural anastomoses between cervical nerve roots (authors' translation)].

In cases of cervical radiculopathy manifested by neural deficit, the exact localization of nerve root compression is hampered by anatomical variations such as anastomoses between bundles of adjacent segmental nerve roots inside the dural sac. A dissecting microscope study of the microsurgical anatomy of cervical nerve roots was carried out on 23 spinal cords, and four types of anastomoses were described. On the basis of embryological observations, the occurrence of such connections between neighboring posterior nerve roots can be explained.

[Cerebral tumors of primitive germinal origin].

The authors attempt to justify the term cerebral tumour of primitive germinal origin from four of their own cases and a review of the literature. They emphasise the specific features. The tumours are more common in boys and involve the pineal, the walls of the third ventricle, the hypothalamus and the posterior pituitary. Several histological types may be distinguished by the degree of differentiation but the stromal reaction, which is partly responsible for the symptoms, is always present. The clinical course of the illness is biphasic. The first is manifest by endocrine disorders and is of relatively long duration. Water homeostasis is always affected and may be associated with other hypothalamic disorders. In the second phase, neurological symptoms and raised intracranial pressure appear. Surgical removal is not always possible, but radiotherapy improves the outlook.

[Topographic forms of herniated lumbar discs. Contribution of saccoradiculographie and zonographie].

The clinical signs of herniated lumbar disc do not always allow to settle their level. Therefore authors add, to sacco-radiculography with standard plates, frontal zonographic sections. Then, they study radiographic findings and segregate some particular topographic forms of herniated discs: 1) with fragment behind verebral body, 2) with deviated root outside the disc herniation, 3) in front of the lamina and behind the root. Some of them have their own clinical signs, especially paralysed forms of L5 sciatic with abolition of achilean reflexe. Further more they propose hemilaminectomy for total removal of herniated lumbar discs with fragment behind the vertebral body. They conclude to advantage of usually making a saccoradiculography with the dimer iothalamate of methyl glucamine (Dimer X) before each operation.
