[Computed tomography of the superior and inferior ankle joint].

Computed tomography of the tibotalar and subtaler joints in standardised planes produces comparable images irrespective of examiners. Traumatic, degenerative or neoplastic lesions of the joint surfaces are shown without superimposition. Intraosseous changes can be localised exactly in relation to the joint. Assessment of possible fractures in children is simplified by simultaneous imaging of soft tissues and bone. Diagnosis of traumatic lesions of ligaments or tendons and dislocation of tendons by bone fragments is possible only on CT-images. After injection of air loose intra-articular bodies can be recognised much more satisfactorily with computed tomography than with conventional arthrography.

Ankle Injuries↗

[Experimental studies of the stability behavior of the coxal end of the femur after montage and removal of DHS implants in the intact cadaver femur].

After experimental implantation in non-fractured cadaver femora, the ASIF dynamic hip screw system supported the femoral neck and the lateral proximal femur and prevents deformation, depending on the vector of the resultant force. Three positions of weight-bearing were simulated: near-axial loading of the femoral neck, standing on one leg and standing on two legs. After removal of the metal the bone breaking point was markedly lowered.

Biomechanical Phenomena↗

[The effect of postoperative cold therapy in joint surgery using a new cooling device].

The effect of continuous cold therapy with a new cooling device in post-operative treatment after knee surgery has been proved. Ten patients with different operations of the knee joint participated in this study. Eight out of ten patients reported no or poor pain, whereas in the control group especially after arthrotomy considerable or violent pain was reported. After arthroscopic operations we found more an decrease of swelling and effusion, after arthrotomy more pain reduction. The subjective feeling of all patients was very good and they were generally very receptive to it.
