[Study of adverse reactions in pulmonary tuberculosis patients treated with rifampicin].

The present study concerns the clinical appraisal of adverse reactions reported in the course of Rifampicin (RMP) treatment, reactions which have given rise to conflicting reports. The lot studied included 243 cases of pulmonary tuberculosis of which 57 were treated according to the 7/7 regime (600 mg RMP), 152 according to the 2/7 regimen (900-1200 mg RMP) and 34 according to the 7/7 followed by the 2/7 regimen. Tolerance to RMP was followed up by a series of adequate tests and close clinical surveillance. Adverse reactions developed in 31.5% to 41.5% of the cases in terms of the treatment scheme. In the intermittent treatment adverse reactions occurred in 17.1% of the cases.

[The significance of psychological risk "patterns" in the recovery of the cerebrovascular patient].

The authors have applied the Jenkins Activity Survey test in 117 patients with residual and sequelae cerebrovascular disorders. Three behavioural types, A, B, and non-A--non-B were determined. A slight prevalence of type A (39.32%) was disclosed by comparison with the two other types, when considered separately although when type-B and type non-A--non-B subjects were lumped together the type A subjects remained a minority. Subjects with marked behavioural patterns were better represented (69.20%), especially those showing factor H. (31.62%), and factor S + H (27.35%).

Immunomodulating activities on cellular cytotoxicity and the blast transformation of human lymphocytes by 10-[n-(phthalimido)alkyl-2-substituted-10H-phenothiazines and 1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-(2-substituted-10 H-phenothiazin-10-yl)alkyl-1-ureas.

Phenothiazines, 10-[n-(phthalimido)alkyl-2-substituted-10H- phenothiazines, and 1-(2-chloroethyl)-3-(2-substituted-10H-phenothiazin-10-yl)alkyl-1- ureas were investigated for their effects on antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), natural killer (NK) cells and the blast transformation of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells. All of the compounds dose-dependently suppressed mitogen-stimulated T cell proliferation. In contrast, a strong enhancing effect on NK cell activity was detected mostly in the case of 1-(2-choroethyl)-3-(2-substituted-10H-phenothiazin-10-yl)alk yl-1-ureas and their related compounds. The stimulating effect directly influenced the NK cells and was demonstrated at all tested concentrations.

Posterior avulsion of the optic nerve due to deceleration trauma.

A patient with complete transection of the optic nerve (posterior avulsion) and explosion of the eyeball, due to an attempted suicide is reported. The symptoms, mechanism of injury and therapeutic possibilities in complete transection and in partial posterior optic nerve avulsions are discussed. Although this case ended up with enucleation, the partial avulsions are not without hope. The importance of team-work is emphasized in polytraumatic patients.
