[Alternatives to radiography for determining root canal length].

Location of the apical foramen using an electronic apex locator to determine working length is more accurate than using radiographs alone. The Neosono Co-pilote is not adversely affected by the presence of sodium hypochlorite and gives us acceptable results in dry canals. Hence, it is today possible to realize endodontic treatment without X ray determination.

[Electroanalgesia: operating principles].

We are faced every day with the problem of dental pain arising from the concomitant action of the nerve fibres, the odontoblasts and the dentinal fluid. Its propagation is due to the triggering of the action potential from the resting potential. It can be reduced thanks to a reversible process of anelectrotonus in electro-analgesia.

[Effectiveness of 4microA electroanalgesia during scaling].

What comfort can be brought by electro-analgesia in scaling? A clinical experimentation including 54 cases evidenced that scaling is not sufficiently regular. The fear of pain is a major cause. Electro-analgesia at 4 microA, provides a valuable solution to this problem, with a recognized in 59% of patients.

[Predictive value of tactile sense in electronic endodontometry].

A statistical study has been conducted in order to study the benefit afforded by tactile sense in endodontometry. The study is based on 154 electronic measures (Dentometer, Endoradar, MEO2) and 90 tactiles ones, all radiographically controlled. Results show that: 1. The rate of good electronic measures is, as a whole, the same as tactile ones. 2. The risk of wrong measures is twofold in the case of narrow root canal, necrosis or molar treatment. 3. The risk lessens in the case of a pulpectomy when the electronic measure is associated with a tactile one: 48.38% success instead of 25%, in tactile sense: 48.8 success instead of 56.25%. Evidently, the study bring up to date the tactile perception in endodontometry in the case of pulpectomy.

[Caries recurrence: descriptive, analytic and prospective clinimetric study].

The purpose of the work is to study primary and recurrent caries through an epidemiological inquiry on the bucco-dental state of dental students at the University of Bordeaux II from 1986 to 1988. The first part describes the sample with mean and standard deviation; then histograms are constructed for each parameter with mean and median. A second, analytical part allows the study of the influence of time and research of risk factors and associated ones of primary and secondary caries, and evidence of a linear relationship between dental caries and quantitative factors. The last, prospective part leads to quantification of predictive value of risk factors with the calculation of sensitivity, specitivity and conditional probability. Results statistically show that risk factors predispose to dental caries and their recurrence for alpha = 10%. They, consequently, confirm particularity of the population about hygiene, treatment motivation and show trends to sugared food consumption, hygiene, salivary ph, yet setting the problem of sample representativity.
