[Characterization of smooth muscle organs by determination of cellular myosin content].

The mean relative content of myosin of cells from smooth muscular organs was estimated using immunocytochemical methods after enzymatical tissue disintegration. The cells were classified according to myosin content. Aortas and urinary bladders of newborn rats and chicken amnions were used as models. Cells of a permanent cell strain, being free of smooth muscular myosin served as negative controls. It could be shown, that the content of myosin, estimated by immunocytochemical methods correlates with the state of development of smooth muscular organs.

[Effect of blood and tissue factors on the migration of cultured endothelial cells of calf aorta].

Fractions of extracts of porcine corpora lutea, of bovine brain with fibroblast growth factor activity and whole blood serum versus plasma derived serum were tested using Boyden technique and agarose migration with regard to their influence on the migration behaviour of endothelial cells of calf aortas. All factors showed a concentration dependent stimulation of random migration of the cells. Only whole blood serum versus plasma derived serum had chemotactic activity. Thus it must be supposed that vascularization processes will be only favoured by the first mentioned two factors whereas angiogenesis will be possibly triggered by factors released from blood platelets during blood coagulation.

[Changes in the amount of myosin and the rate of myosin biosynthesis in vascular cells in culture].

The relative myosin content of aortic cells of newborn rats was estimated cytophotometrically in the course of cultivation using indirect immunofluorescence staining. It should be shown that the average myosin content of the cell population and the number of cells with high myosin content is greatly enhanced when confluency of the cells is reached and proliferation stops. Following the amount of 14C-labelled leucine incorporated in immunoprecipitated myosin during the same period we found that increasing myosin content of the cells results from an enhanced rate of myosin biosynthesis.

[Multiple osteochondromatosis in a female boxer (author's transl)].

Multiple osteochondromatosis in a female BoxerA young female Boxer was presented for a problem of lameness affecting the right hind leg. The lameness was associated with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament. Following the radiographic examination, lesions compatible with a diagnosis of osteochondromatosis were found. There was no pain associated with this condition and it was an accidental finding. Macroscopic and microscopic finds are discussed and there are a few observations about the pathogeny, treatment and prognosis.

[Investigation of in vitro cultivated cells from smooth muscular organs. 5. Immunohistochemical experiments for demonstration of myosin and estimation of changes in the myosin content in the aorta and in isolated respectively cultivated aortic cells of newborn rats (author's transl)].

Smooth muscle myosin was demonstrated in cryostat sections, isolated and cell cultures from aortas of newborn rats by the method of indirect immunofluorescence. The content of myosin in the cells was compared by measuring the fluorescence intensity of single cells. Well differentiated smooth muscle cells present in suspensions of the whole aorta and of the aortic media as well as in aortic cell cultures, are shown to have a higher myosin content than fibroblasts of adventitia and smooth muscle cells with a lower degree of differentiation.

[Studies of in vitro cultivated cells from the smooth muscle organs. 3. Effectiveness of some drugs on pulsation frequency of isolated smooth muscle cells of the chicken amnion].

The effects of some drugs on the beating frequency of isolated cells of the chick amnion cultivated on cover slips were investigated. Cholinergic and adrenergic agonists and antagonists, serotonine, antispasmodics, coronary dilatants and local anesthetics influenced the beating frequency significantly. The isolated chick amnion cells equal in their pharmacological behaviour the intact chick amnion and smooth muscle cells of mammals but differ from isolated beating heart cells.
