[Forensic and ballistic examination of the surface of gunshot wounds].

When investigating a gun-shot wound the forensic scientist gets the largest number of informations from the examination of the surface of it. After summarizing classical methods of the fire-arms examiner, authors report findings of the scanning electron microscopic examination of the entrance wound and the damaged clothing. Various alterations found characterize different factors of the shooting. Their presence and relation to each other may help to determine the fact of the shot itself and estimate the range at which the weapon was fired.

[Effect of calcium-free perfusion on the myocardium].

Authors studied the effect of the perfusion free of calcium on the myocardium. It was performed on the Langendorff cannula. Ultrastructural alterations were described in detail. The severity of the damage to the cells could be correlated with the duration of the perfusion. This study suggests that in the pathogenesis of these lesions lack of the membrane stabilizing effect of calcium ions may play a role.

[Morphological study of the adenyl cyclase activity of the rat heart in experimental hypoxia and ischemia].

Alteration of the activity and localization of the reaction of adenylcyclase after perfusion of the rat heart with nitrogen, carbon monoxide and after ischaemia was studied by electronmicroscopy. In the first minutes of hypoxia increase of the activity of the adenylcyclase was revealed. After perfusion with nitrogen during three hours and with carbon monoxide during 30 minutes intensity of the reaction was observed to be decreased. In ischaemia decrease of the intensity of the late reaction could not be observed. Alteration of the localization of the reaction in ischaemia and hypoxia was not significant. Administration of reserpine and propanol did not cause any alteration. Authors believe, that increase of the activity of the adenylcyclase may be caused by accumulation of an endogenous catecholamine.

[Chromosome analysis in disputed paternity cases].

Results of the study of chromosomes carried out in cases of discussed paternity are reported. Using C-banding technique in 297 cases thickening of the heterochromatic part of chromosomes (1, 9, 16, Y) and incidence of total or partial inversion was studied. By Q-fluorescence-banding technique frequency of polymorphism was investigated.

Effect of hemorrhagic shock on the performance, O2-consumption, and ultrastructure of isolated rat hearts.

Rat hearts were isolated from control animals anesthetized and sham treated for 2.5 hours and following 2.5 hours of hemorrhagic hypotension and they were perfused by modified Langendorff technique. Hearts isolated following hemorrhagic hypotension exhibited increased coronary resistance, depressed left ventricular mechanical performance, and significantly increased sensitivity to threefold elevation of perfusate Ca2+ (from 1.3 to 3.9 mM). Electron microscopic examination showed increased permeability of the plasma membrane for lanthanum, zonal lesions of contractile filaments, damage of mitochondria, and dilation of T-tubules and sarcoplasmic reticulum. Experimental results indicate that myocardial damage is of hypoxic/ischemic origin during the procedure used as a model for shock. Mechanical failure of postoligemic hearts may be caused by the combination of zonal lesions of the myofilaments, damage of energy production, and impairment of cellular calcium metabolism.

[The voyeur behavior and its modification under the influence of alcohol].

The authors have described three cases of voyeurism. They could state the following with regard to the psychopathological connections, the effect of the consumption of alcohol and the question of sanity: 1. In two cases, the sexual drive anomaly remained permanently hidden in the conduct of life. One case was an episodical depression associated with voyeurism and exhibitionism. 2. The effect of the alcohol has not only promoted the occurrence of the abnormal sexual drive but also caused an aggressiveness and dangerous incautiousness. 3. The soundness of mind was in no case restricted.
