Tear calcium levels in normal subjects.

Tear calcium contents were measured in 30 normal subjects divided into six groups of 5 individuals each, age ranging from the second to the seventh decade. No significant difference was found among the age groups. A mean of 4.40 mg of calcium/100 ml was determined for the 30 subjects with a standard deviation of 1.22 and a range 2.60-7.60 mg/100 ml. The tear calcium as percentage of the serum calcium was similar in the six groups and a mean of 45.68 was found for the 30 subjects. This figure is quite similar to that of serum ionised calcium as percentage of the total serum calcium values obtained by different authors.

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty of renal artery stenosis.

Percutaneous transluminal angioplasty was performed in 7 patients with hypertension and renal artery stenosis, caused by atherosclerosis in 3 patients and fibromuscular disease in 4. The balloon dilatation was successful in all patients. In 6 patients the blood pressure was normalized within 5 days after the procedure, and remained so in 5 on follow up 3 to 10 months later.

Spermatogenesis before and after renal transplant.

Studies on the relationship of fertility and renal transplantation are relatively recent. Data related to the sexual aspects of uremic patients before and after renal transplantation are available. Information about spermatogenesis, as offered by testicular biopsy, is scarce. The present study has as its objective the quantitative analysis of testicular biopsies obtained pre- and postoperatively from the renal transplant patients after normalization of the renal function.
