A group of 15 patients, suffering of chronic ischaemia of the lower limbs, were treated with triflusal, a new antiaggregant and antithrombotic agent, at the dose of 300 mg/day, during the first 90 days after artery by-pass grafting. Clinical exploration of patients included: physical inspection, pulses palpation, intermittent claudication (in metres), arteriography before surgery, and postoperative evolution of oscillometric and Doppler indexes. Determinations of platelet aggregation, induced by ADP, epinephrine and collagen, as well as of prothrombin time, platelet adhesiveness, and of thromboelastography parameters in PRP ane PPP were also carried out. Biochemical and hematological data were determined; gastric tolerance and other side effects were written down. Results show a clear improvement of all patients due to surgery, but with triflusal, it has been possible to maintain a prophylactic effect without thrombosis of the graft or of the distal vessel of patients, during the postoperative period. Actually, lower limbs temperature and pulses were maintained, with a good capillary content and with an improved walking distance. No changes in prothrombin time an platelet adhesiveness, have been observed. Five patients showed a clear hypoaggregant tendency, and thromboelastography in PRP indicates a statistically significant increase of R and K parameters as well as a decrease of am. It must be noticed the absence of gastric, hepatic, renal or metabolic side effects and no haemorrhagic lesions were observed. In conclusion, the treatment of these patients with triflusal prevents the otherwise frequent appearance of postoperative thrombosis in this kind of arterial surgery.
The effects of 31 antibiotics on platelet aggregation in human plasma in the presence of adenosine 5'-diphosphate were studied. The marked activity of tetracycline hydrochloride led to a study of its effects on various platelet functions in vivo in dogs.

A group of 55 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and 25 healthy persons is studied. In peripheral blood, the number of E rosettes is similar in both groups but in patients with RA who are not on steroid therapy, these is a decreased number of the absolute value of T lymphocytes. There is a positive correlation between quantitative cellular immunity and different biologic and clinical parameters.
Conformational changes that occur in chromatin from developing germ cells of the echinoderm Holothuria tubulosa have been probed with micrococcal nuclease. The results indicate that the extent of DNA degradation to acid-soluble nucleotides is highest in chromatin at the early stages of gonad growth, being drastically subdued in the mature sperm cell. Production of nucleosomal particles also varies with development, involving at least 70% of the chromatin at the final stage of maturation, whereas in immature germ cells it remains much lower. In contrast, electrophoretic analysis for DNA size has shown that the average nucleosome repeat length, about 227 base pairs, does not change throughout the maturation process. However, kinetics of the enzyme reaction have revealed that, although brief digestion of chromatin from both immature gonads and sperm yields comparable series of higher oligomers, extensive digest patterns differ widely. Sperm chromatin, highly protected, releases a 275 base pair intermediate fragment, wholly absent in immature gonads. The 145 base pair core released in both chromatins is not further digested in sperm. In comparison to sperm chromatin, that of immature germ cells is much more susceptible to fragmentation, yielding the usual set of smaller subnucleosomal fragments. These data suggest the induction of differential accessibilities of chromatin DNA with maturation, which is not accompanied by displacement of the histone complement. The histone variants present in this species may well be instrumental in the process.
