[Congenital anomalies of the coronary arteries].

Two patients with congenital anomalies of the coronary arteries were operated. One them had aneurysm of the Valsalva sinus and anomalous drainage of the right coronary into the right ventricle with 60 per cent arterio-venous shunt. The second had angiodysplastic-type anomaly of the left coronary artery. Both patients were operated on functioning heart, using II-shaped sutures through teflone appliances. However rare, congenital anomalies of the coronary arteries raise diagnostic difficulties. Exact diagnosis is feasible only after coronarography which determines also the type of operative intervention. The operation should preferably be made under bypass circulation.

[Diagnosis and functional assessment of pulmonary thromboembolism].

The authors discuss the problems of diagnostics and functional assessment of pulmonary thrombo-embolia. The potentialities of the clinical indices, electrocardiography, X-ray, blood-gas analysis, capnography, right cardiac catheterization and angiopulmography in the diagnostics and assessment of the form of thrombo-embolia of pulmonary artery were revealed in 54 patients with cardiac and pulmonary form of thrombo-embolia. The stage potentialities in that respect of the various health institutions are outlined and the necessity of evacuation of the patients where they would be best attended is stressed upon.

Expression of mouse and frog rRNA genes: transcription and processing.

This article summarizes a number of lines of investigation of rRNA gene expression that are ongoing in the laboratory. These studies focus on mouse and frog, two distant vertebrate species. One major conclusion is that the basic properties of rRNA gene expression appear remarkably well conserved in evolution, with only relatively minor perturbations between frog and mouse, contrary to the common interpretation of the species-selectively between mouse and human rDNA transcription (e.g., 1). This is true both for the process of rDNA transcription and for the subsequent rRNA processing event.
