[The multidisciplinary treatment of rhabdomyosarcoma in childhood. A 10-year multicenter experience (1978-1988) in Liguria].

The authors retrospectively analyzed the therapy results in a large group of children affected by rhabdomyosarcoma and treated from 1978 to 1988 with chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery. 39/58 patients (67%) achieved a complete response and 25/39 maintained the NED status. An individualized treatment was given to 13 patients who relapsed, but only 3 of them obtained a second response. Those with primary tumor in the orbit or in the genito-urinary tract had lower recurrence rate than patients with head and neck, extremities, pelvis and trunk diseases. Patients in clinical group I and II (according with I.R.S. stadiation) had a significantly better survival than those with more advanced disease (clinical groups III and IV). Relatively to the primary site of the disease, the late effects of combined treatment are mentioned.

Incidence of Chlamydia trachomatis in women with PID: effectiveness of therapy.

The pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) can be caused by various germs. Of the two thousand seven hundred thirty one women screened for different microbiological agents in the genitourinary tract and for PID, three hundred sixty nine patients were Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) positive; one hundred and three patients were affected by PID. Seventy out of them were resulted to be Ct positive. One hundred twenty two women were Ct positive but not affected by PID. The antibiotic treatment resulted to be less effective in women Ct positive but affected by PID. Results of the present study demonstrate that Ct is the primary cause of PID.

A new schedule for etoposide, epidoxorubicin and cisplatin with granulocyte colony stimulating factor for advanced gastric cancer: a feasibility study.

A new polychemotherapy regimen has been developed for gastric cancer. Etoposide at the dose of 120 mg/m2 for three days, Epidoxorubicin at the dose of 30 mg/m2 on day 1 and Cisplatin at the dose of 40 mg/m2 on day 2 were administered to 26 advanced gastric patients every two weeks with the support of Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor from day 8 to day 12 of each cycle. The treatment was feasible with most cases (21/25) having received at least four cycles with a dose intensity > 85%, without life-threatening side effects. Toxicity was lower than that observed in the classical combinations of Etoposide-Anthracycline-Cisplatin.
