We give details of seven children with the TAR syndrome, Thrombocytopenia with absence of the radius. Two of the children were siblings. The TAR syndrome is characterised by hypomegakaryocytic thrombocytopenia and bilateral absence of the radius. It is inherited as an autosomal recessive trait.
Terminal overgrowth in transverse deficiencies and in amputations, particularly of the humerus and tibia necessitate serial trimming procedures or re-amputation. Capping using an autogenous bone graft or a titanium and polyethylene endoprosthetic cap provides a satisfactory way of avoiding these re-amputations and allowing end-bearing.

In severe cases of caudal-regression syndrome one usually can find hip-flexion and knee-flexion-contractures, which can hardly be treated. We report about a new possibility of operative treatment. In this case we correct the contractures with a shortening of the proximal part of the femur and with a resection-arthrodesis of the knee-joint. The clinical result, which we obtained by this way, allows the orthotic management with an orthoprosthesis. The maintaining mobility of the hip joint and the sitting-comfort is very sufficient.

The Krukenberg-procedure to convert a forearm stump into a grasping organ with tactile sensation gives the bilateral forearm-amputee more independence than the exclusive fitting and training with prostheses. The main indication is the blind bilateral forearm-amputee. Since Krukenberg's first publication in 1917 the method has been modified by different authors because of the difficult skin closure of the radial and the ulnar half of the forearm. The proposed incision allows the surgeon to cover both the ulna and the radius grasping surface with skin having normal tactile sensation and avoids excision of forearm muscles. These muscles are important for blood supply and for the quality of grasp. The surgical procedure will be described even in stumps too long or too short.
Amputations in the lower limb are now carried out principally in the elderly because of vascular disease. The management and rehabilitation of the amputee is best achieved by a team approach with the close cooperation of the different disciplines. Attention should be paid to the psychological state of the patient who should be encouraged to mobilise as soon as possible. Prosthesis design and manufacture has changed greatly in recent years. Widespread use is now made of lightweight plastic materials. Modern technology is being applied to the design and manufacture of prostheses, with increasing use of modular systems of components.

The authors discuss 7 cases of congenital subtrochanteric pseudarthroses of the femur which do not fit into the traditional schemes--neither from the histologically nor from the X-ray aspects. A valgus angulation osteotomy was carried out in each case. The procedure depending on the acutness of the angle. The results are positive.
This publications shows new ways of prosthesis controlled by nerv action potentials. We introduce results of neurophysiological trials on animals which will be the basis for a neuroelectric prosthesis for human beings.
