[Urethral diverticula in women].

We present results of 3 female patients with periurethral abscesses and 1 patient with urethral diverticle, who were hospitalized in our department. The aim of this study is to draw attention on incidence in women including those without urological sympatology. (Fig. 2, Ref. 5.)

Lipid metabolism in young males with hypotestosteronaemia and oligospermia prior to, during, and after treatment.

Relationships between plasma testosterone levels and selected parameters of lipid metabolism were studied in a group of young sterile males prior to, during, and after hormone therapy. Initial hypertriacylglycerolaemia and decreased concentrations of HDL cholesterol returned to normal values after 30 days of methyltestosterone administration. LDL cholesterol concentrations decreased significantly as did plasma apolipoprotein B levels. These changes persisted also one month after cessation of treatment. The results suggest that restoration of initially decreased testosterone levels in the studied group of sterile males is associated with the restoration of the lipid profile.

Sepsis caused by periurethral abscess.

The author presents an unusual case of general sepsis of the organism caused by periurethral abscess in a 38 years old man. The aetiology is discussed.

Alterations of lipid metabolism in men with hypotestosteronemia.

Studied relationship in serum concentration of testosterone and lipids in 35 men with a positive coronarographic finding and 30 sterile men, in comparison with a control group. From lipid parameters we determined serum concentration of cholesterol, triacylglycerols and apolipoprotein B, and lipid distribution in lipoprotein fractions. Serum testosterone concentration was found decreased in both the group as against the controls. As to lipid parameters, cholesterol concentration was depressed in the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) fraction of both the clinical groups. As increased apolipoprotein B level was seen in men with the positive coronarographic finding. The results point to a negative effect of lowered testosterone concentrations on lipid metabolism.

[Hemodynamic changes in varicoceles and their relation to fertility].

Hemodynamic changes in the vascular bed of the affected testis were studied in 45 sterile and 6 fertile patients with varicocele. The examination method used was modified abdominal angiography. The most frequently recorded change in the arterial bed was persistence of the contrast medium in the left internal testicular artery (5 patients). All these patients were from the group of sterile subjects. The most frequent finding in the venous bed was venous reflux from the left renal vein into the left internal testicular vein (45 sterile and 2 fertile patients). In some sterile patients pathologic opening or origin of the vessels was observed. The substantially higher rate of hemodynamic changes in sterile patients suggests their direct relationship to spermiogenesis.

Parameatal urethral cyst.

A rare case of a cyst of the outer urethral orifice in a 35-year-old female is presented. The etiology is discussed.

[Treatment of priapism].

The authors describe the development of conservative and surgical treatment of priapism. They analyze the aetiopathogenesis of its development. They report on their own experience with the surgical treatment in four patients, where they made three times a spongiocavernous anastomosis on one side according to Quackels' method, twice spongio cavernous anastomosis via the glands penis according to Ebbehøj-Winter. They prefer glandocavernous anastomoses because it is a simpler, less time consuming operation.

Some measures of lipid metabolism in young sterile males before and after testosterone treatment.

The concentration of total cholesterol and triacylglycerols in plasma and their distribution in lipoproteins as well as the level of apolipoprotein-B and of endogenous testosterone were measured in 30 young sterile males before and after the treatment with methyltestosterone (Agovirin SPOFA) in a dose of 10 mg daily for 30 days. Before the treatment the level of total cholesterol in plasma and in VLDL fraction was normal, while that in LDL fraction was increased and in HDL fraction decreased. Similarly, the level of triacylglycerols in plasma was increased and correspondingly also the levels of that in all lipoprotein fractions. After the treatment no changes in total and VLDL cholesterol were found, while a significant decrease in LDL fraction and increase in HDL fraction was observed. Moreover, a significant decrease was found in a level of total plasma and VLDL triacylglycerols.

X-ray findings on the testicular artery in varicocele.

X-ray findings on the internal testicular artery following abdominal aortography are described. A group of 32 patients with left-sided varicocele were examined. The course of internal testicular artery was visualized in 27 patients. In 5 sterile patients prolonged filling of the left internal testicular artery up to the venous phase of the abdominal aortography has been observed. The non-physiological courses of the artery are described.

Congenital anomalies of the seminal ducts.

The frequency of individual congenital anomalies of the deferens, the seminal vesicles, the ejaculatory ducts and the utricle in 158 patients treated for sterility was determined by the method of deferentovesiculography by punction. Congenital anomalies were found in 14 patients (8.8%). Anomalies of rare occurrence are demonstrated in detail. The relation of such anomalies to sterility of patients is described.
