In 43 patients with equivocal pelvi-ureteric obstruction, conventional urography was supplemented with diuresis urography. After peroral hydration with 0.5 liters fluid, a large volume of urographic contrast medium was administered and increased diuresis provoked by intravenous injection of furosemide. A relative obstruction of flow was then accentuated by increased dilatation of the renal pelvis. The technique deserves a wider use in the radiologic investigation of patients with equivocal obstruction at the pelvi-ureteric junction.
A series of 55 percutaneous nephrostomy patients is presented. Techniques and presently available catheter types are discussed as well as the specific problems arising when the procedure is used for urinary diversion in neoplastic disease.
A sample of 1271 visually handicapped children has been analysed with regard to the degree and cause of visual impairment.
Defects of the neuromotor system of the eye found to occur in 80% of 70 visually impaired children. The influence of such defects on the developing visual acuity is discussed. Early and intensified treatment is suggested to minimize negative effects and promote visual development.
A new type of balloon catheter for rapid nephrostomy track dilatation from 3 to 10 mm is described. The balloon has a length of 10 cm, which means that the tract can be dilated in its entire length in one step. The catheter system is recommended for use, especially in patients previously not operated upon.
