An adult patient with isolated septic arthritis of the sternoclavicular joint (SCJ) caused by Staphylococcus aureus is described. The patient had no underlying diseases other than paronychia, which might have served as the portal of entry. Antibiotic therapy resulted in clinical cure but x-ray revealed progression of the destructive process.
We believe that ORTHOX is a practical solution for the evaluation of x-rays giving a fast and accurate reading, that can be performed by every physician, even if his orthopaedic experience is still limited.

An aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) is an uncommon benign bone lesion that principally occurs in long bones and in the vertebral column. The appearance of ABC in carpal bones is very rare. We report a case of ABC that occurred in the hamate bone.

The clinical picture of ruptures of the ligaments about the tibio-fibular syndesmosis are presented. The diagnosis should be based on the history and clinical examination. Arthrography of the ankle confirms the diagnosis. We describe a surgical method of stabilizing this affected joint, wherein local bone is used to arthrodese the tibio-fibular joint.
Carpal tunnel syndrome is a result of median nerve compression within the carpal canal. Factors associated with the appearance of carpal tunnel syndrome can be related to the bony architecture of the carpal canal, to its contents and to systemic disease. The purpose of this work is to see if changes in the elasticity of the transverse carpal ligament may cause carpal tunnel syndrome.

The authors report data collected on 3674 subjects between 1970 and 1974 as part of an epidemiologic field survey of mental disorder in the southeastern United States, an area which was undergoing rapid sociocultural change. Rates of mental disorder, as measured by the Global Psychopathology Scale, are presented for various sociodemographic groups and are consistent with trends found in previous studies. Analysis of variance and multiple regression techniques are used to explore the relationships among awareness of social change, sociodemographic variables, and psychopathology. Low awareness of change is found to be consistently associated with low psychopathology scores across all socioeconomic groups. The authors postulate a "denial" or "filter" mechanism which may protect particularly vulnerable individuals from the psychic distress accompanying social change.
Adequate, satisfactory treatment of high pressure paint or grease injection of hte hand invariably requires wide wound excision. This results quite often in a mutilated, disabled digit or hand, with loss of soft tissue and sensation. We report two such cases, each with a neurovascular island flap used to restore adequate soft tissue and sensation.
In the treatment of unstable comminuted and intra-articular fractures of the lower end of the radius, we have found that is is essential to reconstitute the normal anatomical relationship of the radius to the carpus and to the ulna. This is possible by performing an open reduction and by maintaining the fractured fragments by Kirschner wires and adding a tension band. Patients treated thus are reported. There have been no complications and the patients regained full function of the wrist without unsightly deformity.
