The diagnosis of uterine haemangiopericytoma is still a matter of debate. The existence of haemangiopericytoma must be proven on the basis of classical histology, ultrastructure histology and immunohistochemical analyses. The diagnosis, even when apparently sure, must nevertheless be proven. We described two cases emphasizing the clinical and laboratory features of uterine haemangiopericytoma. Progress in nuclear magnetic resonance imaging, ultrastructural analysis and immunohistochemistry should help in confirming the diagnosis of haemangiopericytoma. Highly vascular leiomyoma or low malignity grade leiomyosarcoma have been mistakenly identified as haemangiopericytoma.
This study developed a grounded theory of the stresses and coping responses of parents to the repeated hospitalization of chronically ill and disabled children. The theoretical sampling spanned four years and included 30 mothers of children who have a chronic illness or disability and 30 mothers of healthy children; 100 parents of disabled children who attended a weekend retreat: six community health nurses; nine mothers of chronically ill and disabled children before, during and after a hospitalization. The resulting mid-range theory identifies the most stressful aspect as "hazardous secrets" which force the parent to "reluctantly take charge" of the situation. "Vigilance", "calling a halt", "exhaustion" and "taking a break" are key constructs in the process. "Trusting parent and professional relationships" emerged only when a professional assisted in revealing secrets.
Two monohydroxylated metabolites of methotrimeprazine (levomepromazine), which previously have been identified in plasma and urine from psychiatric patients, were synthesized by nonenzymatic, FeCl2-catalyzed oxidation, isolated, and purified by preparative reversed-phase HPLC. Mass spectrometric analysis gave identical spectra for the two compounds, but did not reveal the positions of the OH groups. However, 1H NMR spectroscopy at 200 MHz demonstrated that one of the compounds, which had the shortest GC retention time on an OV-17 column, was hydroxylated in the 3-position on the phenothiazine nucleus, and that the other derivative was hydroxylated in the 7-position. The metabolism of methotrimeprazine differs, therefore, from that of its congener chlorpromazine, which is hydroxylated mainly in the 7-position in humans.
