[Regular menstrual bleeding in a woman after hysterectomy].

The authors present a rare case of 39 years old woman, who had regular monthly bleedings mimicking menstruation during the two years after abdominal hysterectomy (without the adnexa). The woman was operated on in 1997 because of large uterine myoma and presented no other pathology in the abdominal cavity. She also suffered from autoimmunological anemia and chorea, which decreased her life activity and resulted in lack of gynecological care after the operation. The patient misunderstood the effect of surgery and mistook bleedings for signs of normal hormonal function. Deep external endometriosis of vaginal cuff and surrounding tissues was the cause of 'menstruation'. All this tissues were surgically removed. An immunological mechanism which plays role in endometriosis, chorea and anemia, was discussed.

Prevalence of bacterial vaginosis in adolescent girls.

The age-related increase in the prevalence of bacterial vaginosis was determined in adolescent virginal and sexually active girls aged 13 to 18 years. Higher rates were recorded for girls with two or more sexual partners. Considering the potential spectrum of consequences of bacterial vaginosis, preventive strategies are required in this age group, not only for bacterial vaginosis but also for other sexually transmitted diseases.

[The significance of appendectomy for appendicitis on subsequent fertility].

A study was undertaken to determine fertility in a group of females who as children had been operated on for appendicitis. The 134 women operated on for appendicitis were reviewed. Their ages ranged from 2-18 years at the time of appendectomy. Our data show that perforated appendicitis before puberty has little if any role in the etiology of tubal infertility.

[Does a physician's apron protect against nosocomial infection?].

A view on the role of doctors coats in spreading and preventing nosocomial infections has been presented. Although traditionally a big attention is put on wearing white coats by ward staff, in many instances it's protective effect is overestimated, while other factors may be of importance.

[Evaluation of the basis for elective appendectomy in gynecologic laparotomy].

The usefulness of elective appendectomy in gynecological laparotomy has been discussed on the basis of data from 2157 operations. A high rate of pathology has been found in patients without any clinical manifestations including 56.6% inflammatory changes and 0.51% malignant neoplasmas. Elective appendectomy does not influence complications rate, duration of hospitalisation, excludes the need for future operation and may lower the costs of health care.

[Evaluation of the influence of some factors for determining the effect of surgical creation of an artificial vagina].

The influence some real factors on positive effect of creating artificial vagina was studied in a group of 37 women aged 13-40 with vaginal agenesis. Determination of the proper operation for vaginal agenesis depends on whether a cervix or functioning endometrium is present. Surgical management, in addition to vaginoplasty, aims to prevent the development pelvic endometriosis preserve the capacity for pregnancy. Two MR studies demonstrated the presence or absence of a normal cervix and functioning endometrium. MR imaging assisted in the classification of the abnormality by noninvasively demonstrating the details of pelvic anatomy and the uterine morphologic characteristics. In the McIndoe operation a space is opened up at the site of the absent vagina and a penile-shaped prosthesis draped with a split skin graft is inserted into the space and retained while the cavity epithelialises.

[Several years of observation of the incidence of Trichomonas vaginalis infections among female workers in a single industrial plant].

During 5 years cycle a prophylactic gynaecological, cytological and parasitological examinations of 1918 women were performed. 12.8% of women were infected with T. vaginalis. Decreasing percentage of infections was observed: from 9.92% in 1984 to 2.2% in 1988. In the I. of Papanicolaou cervical smears T. vaginalis has been found in 1.60% of cases, in the II.--in 5.2%, in the III.--in 14.29%, and in the IV.--in 22.22% of cases. In women with normal cervix uteri T. vaginalis have been found in 5.01% of cases, and in women with hypertrophied cervix and partially epidermized ectopy with ovula nabothi in 15.28% of cases.
