This article describes the benefits of an in-house physical therapy pilot program. The program was initiated in 1994 to improve employees' functional capacity after occupational and nonoccupational musculoskeletal injury, shorten total disability time, use restrictive duty more productively, and reduce total disability costs. The pilot program's initial success led to the establishment of a permanent program.

We present a case with the unusual association of Graves' disease and functioning pulmonary metastases of follicular thyroid carcinoma. Unlike other reports of thyroid cancer and thyrotoxicosis, this patient's hyperthyroidism was related to a hyperfunctioning primary thyroid neoplasm and not merely to large amounts of functioning metastatic tumor. Thyroidectomy cured her hyperthyroidism. A lung biopsy confirmed the impression of metastatic thyroid cancer. Following therapeutic radioactive I131 pulmonary metastases completely disappeared.
A 56-year-old acromegalic patient was treated with conventional radiotherapy. One year after treatment, the patient's growth hormone level was normal and remained so for a full year. Subsequently, the growth hormone level returned to the pretreatment, acromegalic range. The attainment of a normal growth hormone level after treatment of acromegaly is no assurance that the level will remain normal. Repeated growth hormone level determinations are necessary before cure can be considered permanent.
