[Formation of a microvascular, multilayer constructed transplant using the greater omentum].

The high potential for vascularisation of the greater omentum, described in the literature and in our own investigations was used to build microsurgical compound island flaps containing hard tissue grafts like Proplast. In the first operative procedure Proplast was inserted into the omentum and a flap was formed pedicled on the right gastro-epiploic vessels and transposed into the subcutaneous layer. Two to three weeks later the vascularized Proplast could be removed together with the overlying skin and fat. In another experiment Proplast was inserted into the pedicled omentum and put back into the belly. A second laparotomy was performed 14 days later to cover the omentum-Proplast sandwich with a split skin allograft. In both experiments the total compound sandwich flap was supplied only by the right gastro-epiploic vessels, which allowed a microsurgical transplantation.

[Rational interpretation of the lateral teleradiograph by means of the principle of magnetostriction].

A new method for the pick up and processing of cephalometric data from teleradiographs was reported. The possibilities for error with the method were objectified by comparative measurements using traditional methods; no significant differences or disadvantages could be established in comparison with other methods of measurement. The errors due to the projection and technical imperfections in the roentgenograms remained unaltered in the assessment. The basic advantage therefore is the efficient function, which is particularly effective when combined with automatic data processing systems.

Effect of tongue reduction on the orthodontic and surgical treatment of dysgnathia.

The results of reduction of tongue size in connection with orthodontic and surgical correction of prognathic anomalies of the jaws are presented. It is shown that reduction of the tongue size combined with orthodontic treatment arrests of tendency to prognathic growth when it is performed early. The results further indicate that the effect of prophylactic reduction of tongue size to check relapse following surgical correction of prognathism or open bite can only be confirmed in cases of genuine macroglossia. Since there was only one relapse in our cases without reduction of tongue size, the indication for preoperative prophylactic reduction of the tongue is limited. Personal results and experience have been compared with the findings published in the current literature.

[Technic and results of surgical tongue reduction].

The results of 53 surgical tongue reductions using a new line of incision are reported. Follow-ups were made in 31 of the cases. Hardly any unfavorable results are to be expected from this operation as far as postoperative shape of the tongue, mobility, taste, sensitivity, and speech are concerned. The positive effect on disturbed speech is especially worth mentioning.
