[Diagnostic status in chronic pancreatitis. Observations on 50 cases].

The authors, after underlining the persistent interest for the problem of the chronic pancreatitis, especially about the diagnostic difficulty, refer the anamnestic, clinical and instrumental data concerning 50 patients with chronic pancreatitis examined in a period of ten years in Grosseto 's hospital. The authors discuss the most probable aetio -pathogenetic factors of chronic pancreatitis and review the numerous diagnostic methods at present available to study this disease, proposing future levels of research, on the basis of their significance, facility of execution, acceptability for the patient and cost, for a fit screening of the disease.

Adult

[Serum bile acids in acute hepatitis. Clinical observations].

Diagnostic and prognostic significance of total bile acids concentrations has been evaluated in 26 patients with acute viral hepatitis. The levels of fasting and post-prandial blood cholates have been compared with the values found in normal subjects, in 20 patients with extrahepatic pathology and in 10 cases of non-viral icteric diseases. A remarkable rise in serum bile acids concentration has been showed in acute stage of hepatitis; the level of cholates is significantly higher in cholangitic jaundice, but difference is not found in respect of patients with extrahepatic cholestasis. The improvement of disease decreases the serum bile acids concentration; the decrease going on at the same rate of serum transaminases lowering but preceding the serum bilirubin one. No difference was found between fasting and post-prandial blood cholates. In conclusion, serum bile acids concentration has no diagnostic value in hepatitis, nevertheless it seems an useful test for monitoring the course of the hepatitic disease.

Adult

[Blood lipid disorders and chronic pancreatitis. 4 cases].

The literature dealing with the debated and not yet completely settled question of the causal relationship between dyslipidaemia and acute and chronic diseases of the pancreas is reviewed. Four personal cases of chronic pancreatitis associated with dyslipidaemia are presented and their possible pathogenetic relationships are discussed.

Adult

[Endoscopic and histofunctional study in gastroptosis (author's transl)].

The AA., after the nosographic, etiopathogenetic and clinical description of the "gastroptosic disease", give their findings of a functional and morphologic (gastroscopic and histologic) study accomplished over 200 patients with stomac tonus and/or stomac position disturbances. This study, confirming the numerous anomalies of the gastric-secretory function, especially of the hyposecretory and/or hypohydrochloric type, demonstrates the high incidence of the macro- and microscopic changes on the gastric mucosa. The AA., on account of the gastric morpho-functional changes observed, discuss, finally, the possible pathogenetic mechanisms.
