1. The data summarized in this report reveals the existence of GABA binding in the bovine adrenal medulla membranes. 2. Since this binding was displaced not only by muscimol and bicuculline but also by baclofen, results suggest the possibility that both types of receptors (GABAA and GABAB) could be present in bovine adrenal membranes.

Reported here are the results of a mail survey of 113 graduates from the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine. Fifty-seven had been admitted with assistance of the Special Admissions Subcommittee (SAS) and 56 had been admitted through the traditional Recruitment and Admissions Committee mechanisms. SAS graduates see more patients daily, and practice more often in primary care specialties in rural and inner-city areas, providing medical care for ethnic minorities from lower socioeconomic strata.
Sarcoplasmic reticulum isolated from rabbit skeletal muscle and incubated in a medium containing Ca2+ in the absence of ATP retains intravesicular and/or membrane-bound Ca2+. The synthesis of ATP coupled with the release of intravesicular Ca2+ is totally inhibited by the ionophore X-537A. Release of the membrane-bound Ca2+, retained after short periods of incubation (10min) or after release of the intravesicular Ca2+ by ionophore X-537A, still supports some synthesis of ATP. The ratios of Ca2+ released to ATP synthesized are 2.5-3.2, when bound and intravesicular Ca2+ are released simultaneously, and 3.1-4.0, when only bound Ca2+ is released. The results show that the synthesis of ATP by sarcoplasmic reticulum during release of passively accumulated Ca2+ by EGTA [ethanedioxybis(ethylamine)tetra-acetic acid] is accompanied by a loss of membrane-bound Ca2+.

Two different areas of metropolitan zone in Venezuela were studied in relationship to the immunological condition associated with A, B, C and D viral hepatitis in 557 healthy subjects. We performed clinical history with personal information, that was subsequently correlated with results of the hepatitis markers. General results show prevalence different from previous reports: Anti-HAV: 90.84%, HBsAg: 1.62%, Anti-HBc: 10.6%, Anti-HCV: 0.36% y Anti HDV: 0%.
OBJECTIVE: To report a case of a patient who developed a Graves' ophthalmopathy class III two weeks after receiving radiotherapy in the neck. CASE HISTORY: He was a male of 51 years of age with a stage IIIB Hodgkin's disease who received chimio- and radio-therapy two weeks previous to the ophthalmopathy. The computed axial tomography showed retroorbital changes. The thyroid function tests, including the stimulation with thyrotropin releasing hormone and the microsomal and thyroglobulin antibodies were normal. The patient was treated with oral prednisone, followed by retroocular radiotherapy on the right eye. The exophthalmos improved and the diplopia disappeared.
