[Magnification technique in abdominal angiography (author's transl)].

The authors describe the requirements for improved information with magnification in abdominal angiography. The low effect of the microfocus tube limits its use in conventional technique mainly because of the grid. Magnification technique combined with high sensitive screens and no grid will compensate for the low effect of the tube. Unsharpness due to motion is more marked with magnification technique but is in practical work of little importance. A useful technique for renal and pancreatic angiography is discussed.

Arteriography before needle puncture or renal hilar lesions.

We report on 2 patients with cystic-appearing lesions in the renal hilus that were detected on urography. In 1 case an ultrasound study confirmed a cystic mass but an arteriogram revealed a renal artery aneurysm. The arteriogram before the contemplated puncture of the renal hilar mass prevented an inadvertent puncture. The information about the arterial anatomy helped preoperative planning, which resulted in successful repair of the aneurysm by microdissection and autotransplantation.

Metrizamide in angiography I. Femoral angiography.

In 20 patients the non-ionic Amipaque (metrizamide) and the ionic Isopaque Cerebral (meglumine/calcium-metrizoate) were injected into the femoral, brachial internal iliac or external carotid arteries. Strain gauge plethysmography of the lower leg demonstrated less increase in blood flow following injections of Amipaque (25%) than following injections of Isopaque Cerebral (95%). None of the 20 patients complained of pain following injection af Amipaque; 15 experienced pain following Isopaque Cerebral.

Inactive malignant endocrine tumors of the pancreas.

The angiographic pattern of four non-active endocrine tumors is reported. Three of the tumors were highly vascular and had a characteristic angiographic appearance as observed in a few case reports in the literature. One tumor was angiographically avascular with irregularly scattered calcifications. Similar calcifications in a malignant tumor of the pancreas causing the Zollinger-Ellison syndrome are presented. Hypervascular tumor tissue was observed in the periphery of the calcification. The types of calcification and angiographic characteristics are of diagnostic importance in the differential diagnosis between endocrine tumors and other highly vascular tumors of the pancreas.
