Wavelet analysis for the multicomponent determination in a binary mixture of caffeine and propyphenazone in tablets.

An approach based on both discrete and continuous wavelet analysis followed by a zero-crossing technique was developed. We applied this approach to obtain a high resolution in the binary mixture of caffeine (CA) and propyphenazone (PR) in the presence of their overlapping signals in the working length. The optimization of the wavelet families was accomplished for this mixture. The de-noise procedure was carried out by using 4-level Haar discrete wavelet transform and the resulted de-noised signal was investigated by continuous Mexican (MEX) and Haar (HA) transforms. Finally, a zero-crossing technique was applied on the transformed signal and the constructed calibration was tested by analyzing the composition of the different mixture containing CA and PR. All calculations have been performed within EXCEL and Matlab 6.5 software. The obtained results indicate that our procedure is flexible and applicable for the mixture analysis.

A zero-crossing technique for the multidetermination of thiamine HCl and pyridoxine HCl in their mixture by using one-dimensional wavelet transform.

A new zero-crossing technique based on one-dimensional wavelet transform (WT) was developed and applied on a commercial vitamin product and binary mixtures containing thiamine HCl and pyridoxine HCl in the presence of the interference of the analysed signals. We selected from the data of the UV-Vis absorption spectra a signal consisting of 1150 points corresponding to the concentration range 8-32 mg/ml for both vitamins and we subjected it to one-dimensional continuous WT Mexican (MEXICAN) and Meyer (MEYER). Since the peaks of the transformed signals were bigger than original ones a zero crossing technique was applied to obtain the regression equations. The validity of Beer-Lambert law was assumed for the transformed signals. An appropriate scale setting was choosing to obtain an alternative calibration for each method. The basic concepts about wavelet method were briefly explained and MATLAB 6.5 software was used for one-dimensional wavelet analysis. The obtained results were successfully compared among each other and with those obtained by other literature methods. The developed method is rapid, easy to apply, not expensive and suitable for analysing of the overlapping signals of compounds in their mixtures without any chemical pre-treatment.

Spectrophotometric quantitative determination of cilazapril and hydrochlorothiazide in tablets by chemometric methods.

Four chemometric methods were applied to simultaneous determination of cilazapril and hydrochlorothiazide in tablets. Classical least-square (CLS), inverse least-square (ILS), principal component regression (PCR) and partial least-squares (PLS) methods do not need any priori graphical treatment of the overlapping spectra of two drugs in a mixture. For all chemometric calibrations a concentration set of the random mixture consisting of the two drugs in 0.1 M HCI and methanol (1:1) was prepared. The absorbance data in the UV-Vis spectra were measured for the 15 wavelength points (from 222 to 276 nm) in the spectral region 210-290 nm considering the intervals of deltalambda = 4 nm. The calibration of the investigated methods involves only absorbance and concentration data matrices. The developed calibrations were tested for the synthetic mixtures consisting of two drugs and using the Maple V software the chemometric calculations were performed. The results of the methods were compared each other as well as with HPLC method and a good agreement was found.

Multicomponent quantitative resolution of binary mixtures by using continuous wavelet transform.

Continuous 1-dimensional wavelet transform (WT) was applied to the quantitative analysis of a vitamin combination of thiamine hydrochloride (THI) and pyridoxine hydrochloride (PYR) with strongly overlapping signals. Absorbance data from the UV-Vis absorption spectrum of width 1150 were subjected to Gauss1 and Gauss2 WTs. Because of its flexibility, data processing, and its high signal amplitude, the continuous WT method is a powerful tool for analysis of multicomponent mixtures. By measuring the amplitude signals corresponding to the selected zero-crossing points of the transformed signal, we obtained the calibration curve. The validation of the calibration graphs was confirmed with different mixtures of THI and PYR at various concentration ratios. A brief explanation of the continuous wavelet method is given. MATLAB 6.5 software was used to perform the calculations. The results of our study were compared with those obtained by spectroscopic, chemometric, and liquid chromatographic methods, and good agreement was found.

Application of the wavelet method for the simultaneous quantitative determination of benazepril and hydrochlorothiazide in their mixtures.

The discrete and continuous wavelet transforms were applied to the overlapping signal analysis of the ratio data signal for simultaneous quantitative determination of the title subject compounds in samples. The ratio spectra data of the binary mixtures containing benazepril (BE) and hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) were transferred as data vectors into the wavelet domain. Signal compression, followed by a 1-dimension continuous wavelet transform (CWT), was used to obtain coincident transformed signals for pure BE and HCT and their mixtures. The coincident transformed amplitudes corresponding to both maximum and minimum points allowed construction of calibration graphs for each compound in the binary mixture. The validity of CWT calibrations was tested by analyzing synthetic mixtures of the investigated compounds, and successful results were obtained. All calculations were performed within EXCEL, C++, and MATLAB6.5 softwares. The obtained results indicated that our approach was flexible and applicable for the binary mixture analysis.
