Role of the epithelial derived factors on airway reactivity.

A tracheobronchial smooth muscle reactivity study on isolated guinea pig tracheal rings was done. The existence of two different factors active on the smooth muscle, an inhibiting one as well as an activating one were identified. Generated on different pathways, the epithelial derived relaxing factor is a cyclooxygenase dependent prostaglandin, while the activating epithelial factor seems to be a thromboxane derivative.

Na+ and K+ dependent ATP-ase and structural modifications in hypokinetic rats.

In rats the hypokinetic state obtained by restraint in special cages, produces after 30 days, a marked decrease in Na+ and K+ dependent ATP-ase in the skeletal muscle. After 15 days hypokinesia the enzymatic content of the investigated tissues did not change. In the left cardiac ventricular muscle Na+ and K+ dependent ATP-ase decreased after 15 days and particularly after 30 days hypokinesia. These changes were brought about by the hypofunctional state of both muscles, which also produced structural alterations. In the skeletal and cardiac muscles electron microscopy revealed fibrillar atrophy and mitochondrial alterations typical of an affected function. In the cardiac muscle, in which these changes were more accentuated, the dissociation of the intercalar disc was also noted, aspects partially described by others.

[Microcirculation study by video-monitored intravital microscopy].

As a result of a interdisciplinary team's work, the in vivo study of microcirculation by video monitoring systems, adapted to the optic microscopy, opens new perspectives for the fundamental as such for the clinical and pharmacological research. The multiple possibilities of image acquisition on video tapes, as well as on colour films, offers a variety of post processing of the images through dedicated computer based programs, in order to obtain a precise measurement of the changes occurring in the living tissues. Furthermore, this technical devices along with a proper directed health program, may be used as a modern diagnostic tool in populational screening.

[Hyperlipoproteinemia, a factor of severity in acute pancreatitis].

The authors make a retrospective analysis of 95 cases of acute pancreatitis hospitalized between 1975 and 1979. In 3,8% of all the cases the acute pancreatitis was associated with hyperlipoproteinemia. The study of the 4 patients involved revealed the primary origin of hyperlipoproteinemia as a result of alimentary abuse in 3 of the cases. In a fourth case the increased serum lipoproteins were due to prolonged use of contraceptives. From the clinical viewpoint, pancreatitis associated with hyperlipoproteinemia was more severe, with signs of shock and collapse, respiratory failure, high serum nitrogen an hyperglycemia. The blood and the serum had a lactescent aspect, with a thick layer of chylomicrons. The serum and blood values for lipids were higher than 4000 mg%. The increase in the amount of lipids was especially due to high triglycerides values. From the anatomopathologic viewpoint the 4 patients presented as acute cases of cholecysto-pancreatitis with major and extensive haemorrhagic necrosis which involved almost the entire pancreas. The evolution of the four patients was difficult. Two of the patients recovered after a long hospitalization, and had definitive sequels - insulin-dependent diabetes. The other two patients died following septic complications (bronchopneumonia and visceral gangrene), and hypovolemia due to upper digestive haemorrhage.

[The clinico-epidemiological premises for antioxidant prevention and treatment in chronic myocardial infarct].

The improvement of therapeutic and recoverable proceeding to chronic myocardial infarction (IMC) imposes a complex epidemiological estimation of the global cardiovascular risk, of their clinical and biological status. The retrospective evaluation of the risk factors (RF) by epidemiological methods, in 38 hospitalized prevalence of both constitutional and behavioral factors, and the quantification of the risk state, according to graph Euro 194, has pointed on the fact that 50% of IMC cases have presented a global risk of 10-20%. That justified the application of a preventive conduct in order to continually neutralize the associates FR. The biochemical determinations have allowed to frame the dyslipidemic patients, according to the ARCOL classification in the classes D (29.2%), E (25.0%) and B (20.8%) with direct implication in the adopted therapy. The colorimetric dozing with thyo-barbituric acid of the malonly dialdehyde (MAD) each is a product of the lipidic peroxidation, as well as the interpreting or correlation of the registered values with an evolutive clinic stage, and with the existence of some existing diseases (diabetes, chronic hepatitis etc.) along with signification of other dismethabolical parameters (cholesterol, triglycerides, LDLc, apoB) have confirmed the necessity of a complex therapy, including an antioxidative treatment, having the role to directly inhibit or exclude the free radicals resulted after the oxidative stress of the infarct.
