A knowledge of the anatomic form and relationship of the components of the temporomandibular joint is an important factor in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of temporomandibular joint disturbances. Radiographs of the temporomandibular joint in one plane are the simplest, fastest and easiest way to obtain certain information of temporomandibular joint components. Form and location of the temporomandibular joint are the limiting factors, in the radiological examination of this part of the human body. Different techniques for obtaining the optimal one plane radiograph have been developed to solve this problem. Each of these techniques depicts a different part of the joint. Thus, no method is superior to any other, and none is suitable for all situations.
Denture relining is a well known reparatory prosthetic procedure which provides an intimate contact between the denture base and the supporting tissues. The contemporary prosthetics uses a great variety of lining materials which become hard after polymerisation, and according to their chemical composition and physical properties, are very similar to the denture base materials. This series of articles concerns, however, the materials which maintain soft after polymerisation and are well recognised in the prosthetic dentistry as "Soft-Lining Materials". The article gives a literature review of historical development and main physico-chemical properties of these materials. In spite of many efforts their properties do not fulfil all clinical requirements. The main problems and the clinical experience with these materials are also presented.
On the basic of Rtg craniometric parameters described in previous works, in this article a graphical reconstruction of initial dimensions of the lower jaw residual ridge, classification of the reduction according to classes and subclasses of its expression in vertical direction and comparison of reduction intensity in the frontal and molar regions of edentulous jaws are presented. The study concerned 35 lateral head films of edentulous patients, chosen at random. The results of the study revealed the reduction of residual ridge (RRG) in all edentulous patients, and according to the degree of its expression it was different in frontal and mollar regions. By statistic processing of certain classes and sub-classes of reduction and by appropriate tests of significance significant differences in the expression of RRG in these regions were ascertained. According to our finding the molar region was more susceptible to these processes. The reported values offer the possibility for more precise prosthetic reconstruction of the lost tissue and relations in the treatment of edentulous patients.
