[Microbial settlement of paint- and building-materials in the sphere of drinking-water. 6. Communication: Experimental examination of chlorcaoutchouc paints under working conditions and in laboratory tests (author's transl)].

Five different chlorcaoutchouc coating materials were microbiologically tested. All materials showed a visible microbial growth on the surface. The amount of slime decreased with the increase of age of the coat of paint. After a period of 1 to 1 1/2 years no visible microbial growth could be observed. The decrease of microbial growth on the coat of paint is independent on having been in contact with water or air before. One can say that the main compound of the coating material does not itself produce the visible microbial growth, but additions like volatile compounds.

[Qualitative and quantitative examinations of bacterial found in aquatic habitats. 4. Communication: Comparison of the bacteria of the water an its layer of scum both derived from a reservoir for drinking water (author's transl)].

The bacteriological examination of the water from a reservoir and its thin layer of scum (Neuston) showed considerable differences with respect to the colony count and the identified species. The sample from the surface contained 10(6) bacteria per ml. 77% of the isolated species belonged to the genus Pseudomonas. Where as the bacterial count of the water was below 10(3) per ml. In this case gram-negative, oxidase-negative, yellow-pigmented, motile rods belonging to the genus Xanthomonas were isolated most frequently.

[Microbial settlement of paint- and building-materials in the sphere of drinking water. 9. Communication: experimental examination of cement mortar for the lining with tiles (author's transl)].

The observation of a microbial growth in form of macrocolonies upon the joints of a tiled drinking water reservoir caused the microbiological testing of different pure mineral and some plastic containing cement mortar. Besides the conditions allowing the growth of macrocolonies on tiled plates with a construction like in a reservoir were examined.

[Microbial settlement of paint- and building-materials in the sphere of drinking water. 5. Communication: Macrocolonies on the cement mortar lining in a water main (author's transl)].

It is reported a microbial growth in form of macrocolonies on a cement mortar line in a potable water main. Simultaneously an increase of bacterial content in the water could be observed. The bacterial content could be reduced by chlorination, but the microbial growth on the surface of the lining was not suppressed. Macrocolonies could be observed the same as before at the last inspection 6 1/2 years after opening of the main.

[Microbial settlement of paint- and building-materials in the sphere of drinking-water. 1. Information: long time observation of a bitumen paint in a drinking-water-reservoir (author's transl)].

In a drinking water reservoir with a freshly applied bituminous coating a microbial settlement was found on the walls. Its development was observed over a period of 23 months. The slime on the walls consisted of bacteria and fungi and was secondarily colonized by protozoa and nematodes. The quantities of the microbial coating decreased during a 12 months time. In the beginning of the time of observation a high number of bacteria was found in the water. The carbon fixed by the microbes came from fossile sources to an amount of 90%.

[Microbial settlement of paint- and building-materials in the sphere of drinking-water. 2. Information: experimental examination of bitumen paint under working conditions (author's transl)].

A bituminous coating material for drinking water reservoirs was applied on testing plates for a microbial examination. In function of the chlorine content of the water a microbial slime layer could be found on the testing plates. The amount of slime became less in course of the time or was not produced at all, when the plates were desiccated before the experiment for some months. A slime layer could never be observed on plates of asbestos cement and polyacryl as inert materials for comparison. Different microbial populations were observed.

[Microbial growth on an expansion joint of a reservoir for drinkingwater (author's transl)].

In a clear water reservoir built in ready construction after a working-period of five months quite a lot of slime could be found on the expansion joint filled with tightening compound on the base of Thiokol. The covering slime could be removed easily with a rubber-screen. The microbiological analysis showed an extremely high number of colonies and additional the slime was secondarily settled with Protozoa. An influence on the water in the reservoir could not be found out under working conditions.
