One stage reduction and fusion for spondylolisthesis.

A new method of reduction and fixation of spondylolisthesis and spondyloptosis is described. It is carried out in one stage through a posterior approach. Two self-locking plates are fixed to the sacrum and two double threaded screws inserted into the body of L5. The position is restored by lifting L5 up to the plates. An interbody fusion is carried out with autologous bone grafts. The results in 51 cases, with a minimum follow up of 6 months, are reported.

[Acute occlusion of the iliac arteries after replacement of a total hip (author's transl)].

Two cases of acute occlusion of the external iliac arteries were observed following operative replacement of total hip protheses. They were treated by clot removal. The cause for the acute arterial obstruction presumably are tears of the intima with subsequent thrombosis as well as mobilisation of arteriosclerotic intima-plaques, initiated by traction on the femoral and external iliac arteries which are adherent to their cicatrized perivascular tissues.

[A new positioning board in the preparation for surgery].

The present paper describes a new aid for positioning the patient on the operating table. This aid is a hinged, radioparent board which is laid under the leg, buttocks, shoulder, or arm--folded flat--when positioning the patient. If necessary, the position of the extremities can be altered before or during the operation by varying the degree to which the flap is raised. The device is particularly suitable for surgery on the lower limbs, and has proved extremely useful in practice.
