The presence of some yeasts species in occupational dermatitis.

The samples of skin lesions were collected from forearms, palms and phalanges of ten females working in a manufacturing section (clothes tailoring and assemblage) using imported textiles. The samples were examined for bacteriological and mycotic flora by using classical methods. The textile fragments of 1-2 square centimeters from four samples were investigated using the same classical methods. The gauze fragments were used as toxic negative control samples. In 6 out of 10 samples from cutaneous lesions, Candida albicans was isolated and in 5 samples Rhodotorula species was identified. The yeasts species were identified by cultural and biochemical characteristics. All C. albicans strains were positive for the germ tube test and produced spherical chlamydospores on corn meal agar. The Rhodotorula strains grew on Sabouraud agar pure orange-red pigmented and mucoid colonies of 2-3 mm diameter. The textile samples incubated on blood--agar (10% sheep blood) demonstrated a high toxic activity producing a surrounding beta-hemolysis area of 3-5 cm. This lysis of the sheep red cell was caused by an unidentified chemical agent. In our cases, dermatites were associated with chemical and yeasts agents. The chemical agents irritated and made the derma sensitive, favouring C. albicans and Rhodotorula species multiplication.

[Intestinal obstruction caused by abdominal pseudotumoral endometriosis mimicking a peritoneal carcinomatosis--case report].

A 40-year-old woman was admitted in emergency condition with the symptomatology of bowel obstruction. Intraoperative findings consists of a pelvic fixed tumoral mass, and numerous other tumors spread in the whole abdominal cavity mimicking a peritoneal carcinomatosis without liver metastases. Three of the tumors where about 4 cm in diameter producing stenosis of the terminal ileurn and sigma. We considered the case as it was a peritoneal carcinomatosis caused by an uterus or ovarian cancer and we decided for palliative surgery, performing ileo-transversostomy and sigmoidostomy above the obstruction. The histopathologic findings from more pieces of tumors revealed endometriosis without cancerous changes. Postoperative the patient underwent cytostatic and then hormonal therapy. After 3 month the CT scan revealed an important reducing in volume of the pelvic tumoral mass and the barium enema didn't showed any stenosis under the colostomy so, we closed it extraperitonealy. At 16 month after the first operation the patient was reoperated for a parietal defect. At the second look we found no tumors. The pelvic tumoral mass has disappeared, the uterus seemed to be normal but two big ovary cysts were present. We performed bilateral adnexectomy and the repair of the parietal defect. Postoperative evolution was favorable without any complication or complains at 3 month after the last operation.

[Lipid metabolism in severely acute diarrheic disease in infants].

In a group of 34 infants with serious acute diarrheic disease, the authors study the total lipids, total and esterified cholesterol, triglycerides and lipidogram, in the acute phase of the disease and at a 10-day-interval from the first determination. Triglycerides have constantly increased values both at admittance and at the second determination, as a consequence of lipid mobilization in acute stage. This process continues due to the hypolipidic and hypocaloric diet. Esterified fraction of cholesterol has initially important decreases, tending to become normal in the interval studies, more evident in the healthy infant. Total lipids are increased in 10.5% of the cases and the lipidogram shows an increase of alpha-lipoproteins and prebeta-lipoproteins in 10.5% and 17.5% respectively of the cases in the first determination.

[Enzymatic aspects of severely acute diarrheal disease in infants].

Acute dehydration of diarrhoea of the breast-fed child is a type of hypovolemic shock which, by its severity and frequency is one of the major emergencies of pediatrics. The liver, as the site of many metabolic processes is mainly affected in the frame of the multiple-tissue involvement which is characteristic for this condition. The authors carried out a study of several enzymes (total LDH and the thermally-labile fraction, gluthamatdehydrogenase, gammaglutamyltranspeptidase, acid and alkaline phosphatase) in 27 breast-fed children. Determination of the enzymes was done on hospitalization, and 10 days later. The study showed that all the enzymes that were evaluated had moderate increases in 40.7-71% of all cases. The increases were significant (p less than 0.001). After 10 days the enzyme titers showed a tendency to become normal again, and slightly higher values were found in only 15-12% of all cases. Minimal hepatopathy can be considered, associated to the clinico-biological evolution of this severe conditions of the breast-fed child pathology.
