[The role of ecovirological zoning in prediction of the influence of climatic changes on arbovirus habitats].

The paper contains methodical basis of ecovirological zoning in the analysis of the problem of interrelation between climatic changes and the activity of natural nidi of arboviral infection. The authors offer an original hieroglyphic system of cartographic signs of arboviruses and a map of prevalence of arboviruses in various landscape zones of Noth Eurasia (within the boundaries of the former USSR.) They analyze the three main cartographic approaches to ecovirological zoning of natural territorial complexes, which imply analysis of a ralation to a landscape, conjugated component analysis, and paleographic reconstruction analysis.

[The prevalence and etiological structure of viral hepatitis in a climatic-geographic area at high risk for infection].

The spread of viral hepatitides on the territory of Central Asia has been analyzed, taking into account regional and territorial factors and using the Fergana Valley as an example. The analysis, based on the use of modern immunochemical, clinico-epidemiological and biochemical criteria, has made it possible to determine the etiological structure of viral hepatitides on the territory of the Fergana Valley. The epidemic outbreak on this territory has been proved to be caused by viral hepatitis E. The necessity of organizing constant epidemiological monitoring on the interstate and territorial level has been substantiated.

[A comparative experimental study of pathogenic properties of new strains of California encephalitis virus serogroups].

Experiments in noninbred mice, Syrian hamsters and grey monkeys were made to characterize the pathogenic properties of new strain of the California encephalitis serogroup isolated for the first time on the island of Taimir, in the Murmansk, Leningrad, Tver regions and in Karelia. All the strains displayed marked tropism for the CNS. The strains isolated in the northern regions of this country turned out more pathogenic for the animals. The strain Leiv-12812 Kl (isolated in the Tver region) differed from the remaining ones in more pronounced pathogenicity for the monkeys, as well as in the site and intensity of brain lesions. The persistence of the virus in hamsters organs may play a role of a reservoir of infection in nature.

[Experimental infection caused by Issyk-Kul' arbovirus].

Experimentally in green monkeys, Syrian hamsters and white mice the authors studied the pathogenic properties of a new virus Issyk-Kul. The virus was determined in all animals--in blood and organs (brain, lungs, liver, spleen, kidneys). During the histological investigation the inflammatory and dystrophic injuries were established: in CNS, lungs, liver and kidneys. There was a distinct immunomorphological reaction in the spleen. The virus has pantropic properties and causes a generalized infection in animals.

[The clinico-laboratory characteristics of cases of diseases connected with viruses of the California encephalitis complex in the inhabitants of Moscow].

To study the role of viruses of the California encephalitis virus complex (the family Bunyaviridae) in infectious pathology, 187 fever patients admitted to the Clinical Infectious Hospital in May-September 1986 were examined. In 10 of these patients the neutralization test revealed the presence of diagnostically significant changes in neutralizing antibodies (neutralization indices), which was indicative of the role played by Tahyna virus or other related viruses belonging to the California encephalitis virus complex in the etiology of the diseases. The analysis of the clinical picture showed that in all patients the disease took an acute course in its initial stage, starting with shivering and characterized by high fever, headache, pronounced toxicosis, the possibility of the formation of intracerebral hypertension and pneumonia.

[Significance of viruses of antigen complex of California encephalitis in pathology].

A study was undertaken to examine 320 patients with seasonal fevers occurred in June to September. These included fever of unknown etiology, acute respiratory virus diseases, pneumonias, bronchitis, enterovirus diseases, and serous meningitis. Serological tests revealed that in 20 (6.3%) of them the viruses of the complex in California encephalitis (Tyagin's virus or antigenically related virus) contributed to the etiology of the disease. Major clinical symptoms of the disease were defined in this group of patients. The disease appeared as neuroinfections (serous meningitis), influenza-like conditions (fever, symptoms of intoxication), occasionally, infiltrative changes in the lung. Thus, the viruses of the antigen complex of California encephalitis makes an etiological contribution to infectious abnormalities.

[Study of the host glycosyl component of the influenza virus using monoclonal antibodies].

The crossreacting glycosylated host component (COHC) of influenza virus propagated in chick embryo has been studied using the monoclonal antibodies (MA). The specificity of MA to COHC has been demonstrated by different methods. Both MA of clones A9 and B7 react with the spatially overlapping antigenic sites of oligosaccharide chain, but only MA of B7 are active in hemagglutination inhibition test. The COHC is shown to be associated with both surface glycoprotein adsorbing on the surface of the virion. The study of the components from the allantonic fluid has shown the COHC to be associated with the sole embryo glycoprotein with the mol. mass around 150 kD and p1 9.0-9.5. Thus, the glycoprotein is possibly identical with the glycoprotein adsorbing on the virion surface. The content of COHC in various preparations of influenza virions has been also studied. The relative content of COHC is shown to increase during the purification of viral preparation. The COHC effect on the characteristics of vaccine preparations is discussed.
