[Andrologic problems in benign prostatic hyperplasia].

Retrograde ejaculation is observed after surgical treatment of B.P.H. in the majority of patients; erectile failure may follow these procedures in 10-20% of cases. Post-prostatectomy impotence is not depending on surgical technique and probably occurs as a consequence of venous leakage due to traumatic injury of the nervi erigentes at the prostatic apex. Pathological factors also play an important role as it is shown by the efficacy of preoperative exploration in reducing the incidence of this complications. It is advisable to include potency problems in the informed consent to be signed by the patient before any kind of prostatic surgery.

[Surgical interventions and andrological complications].

Several abdomino-Pelvic surgical procedures can cause ejaculatory failure or impotence. Retroperitoneal lymph node dissection for testis cancer is followed by loss of ejaculation if bilateral. In low stage cancers, monolateral procedure is associated with maintenance of ejaculation in most patients. Evaluation of seminal fluid before surgery is essential for cryopreservation and artificial insemination erectile impotence is consequent to section of "nervi erigentes" in pelvic surgery for cancer. Careful anatomic dissection can spare these nerves but oncologic radicality should be always kept in mind.

[Orgotein iontophoresis in the therapy of induratio penis plastica].

In objective terms the results of medical and physical treatment of Peyronie's disease are still indubitably disappointing. However personal experience has shown that medicated ionophoresis using orgotein does at least eliminate or reduce the pain in Peyronie's disease.

[Results of hyperthermia on the bladder carcinomas of the dog (author's transl)].

A study on the effects of hyperthermia on B.N.A. induced bladder carcinomas of the dog has been carried out since 1966. The hyperthermic treatment has been performed directly in the bladder using an original equipment especially designed. In a large majority of the animals definite cancericidal changes have been shown. The most favorable results were obtained in the treatment of carcinomas not infiltrating the muscular layer of the bladder. In these cases malignant recurrency was not shown up to five years after treatment. Good palliative effect is also refferred in the treatment of advanced bladder carcinoma of the man.

Plasma levels of testosterone, LH and FSH after prostatic adenomectomy.

Changes in blood testosterone, LH and FSH induced by the surgical management of BPH were studied. It is felt that the observation of depressed testosterone and enhanced LH mean levels one year after surgery, substantiates a previously advanced personal view that hyperplastic nodules are heavy consumers of testosterone.
