A large family is described in which a (21q22q) Robertsonian translocation is segregating through three generations. The assessment of the risk of a translocation carrier producing an offspring with Down's syndrome is calculated from the data in this family and eight others reported in the literature. The risk when the translocation carrier is a female is approximately 6 in 100, or 0.06. For the male translocation carrier the risk can only be guessed, since the patients with Down's syndrome born to these parents were probands. The risk for Down's syndrome from the combined data of male and female translocation carriers in 3 is 100, or 0.03.

There are two loci for resistance to the antibiotic kasugamycin (Ksg) in Escherichia coli. Mutations at ksgA resulted in 30S ribosomal subunit resistance to Ksg. The map location of ksgA was near minute 0.5: ksgA was 95% cotransducible with pdxA, and the apparent gene order was thr... ksgA... pdxA. Studies in stable ksgA/ksgA(+) merodiploids showed that sensitivity was dominant over resistance. Mutations at a second gene (ksgB), located between minutes 25 and 39, resulted in phenotypic Ksg(R) indistinguishable from ksgA mutations, but ribosomes from ksgB strains were sensitive to the drug in vitro. Spontaneous and induced mutations to Ksg(R) were usually of the ksgA (ribosomal) type.
We present our experience with the use of the posterior arm fasciocutaneous flap in the reconstruction of 22 axillae in 17 patients. These patients all suffered from long-standing, severe hidradenitis suppurativa and this flap was used to reconstruct the axilla after surgical excision of the whole hair-bearing area of the axilla and the underlying axillary disease. In most cases, excision included all of the axillary contents up to the axillary vessels but excluded the apex of the axilla. Nineteen axillae were reconstructed with a pedicled flap. Three axillae were reconstructed more recently with an island flap. All reconstructions were achieved without flap complications.
