[Evaluation of daunorubicin nephrotoxicity and effect of tocopherol and ascorbic acid on lesions induced in rat kidneys. I. Histologic, histochemical and biochemical studies].

Nephrotoxicity of daunorubicin in rats and effect of tocopherol and ascorbic acid on lesions induced in kidneys by daunorubicin were examined. Daunorubicin induced nephrotic syndrome with proteinuria and hypoproteinemia. Histological changes in the glomeruli appeared as a dilatation of capillary loops and enlargement of the urinary space. The glomerular basement membrane showed minimal thickening. In tubuli protein casts were noticed. No beneficial influence of tocopherol and ascorbic acid on daunorubicin related nephrotoxicity was observed.

[Evaluation of daunorubicin nephrotoxicity and effect of tocopherol and ascorbic acid on lesions induced in rat kidneys. II. Ultrastructural studies of kidney glomeruli].

Nephrotoxicity of daunorubicin in rats and effect of tocopherol and ascorbic acid on lesions induced in kidneys by daunorubicin were examined. The most significant ultrastructural changes in the glomeruli included the loss of foot processes in visceral epithelial cells and appearance of microvillous and vacuolar formations. The glomerular basement membrane showed minimal thickening. No beneficial influence of tocopherol and ascorbic acid on daunorubicin related nephrotoxicity was observed.

Ultrastructure of the basilar artery in rabbit.

Ultrastructure of the basilar artery has been examined in 14 animals aged 70 and 140 days. The structure is characteristic for the muscular type artery. During the most intensive physical growth of the animals between 70 and 140 days, at the time of sexual maturation, the number of laminae in the middle layer increases from 4 to 6 and collagenous, and elastic fibers increase as well.

Powdered diatrizoic acid for radiography of the respiratory tract. Part I. Experimental investigation.

Powdered diatrizoic acid as a contrast medium administered by inhalation and insufflation for visualization of the airways was tested in vitro and in 21 dogs. Good radiopacity of the contrast medium and its antibacterial activity was found in vitro. In the majority of animal experiments visualization of the bronchial tree down to segmental and partially to subsegmental bronchi with only minimal agglomeration of contrast medium and with good or very good demonstration of anatomic details was achieved. In the majority of dogs contrast medium was eliminated from the lungs within 18 hours. Arterial blood gases tested on 5 dogs showed only unimportant changes after contrast medium administration. No adverse reactions were observed. Histologic and ultrastructural examinations after contrast studies showed phagocytic reaction to diatrizoic acid, transient impairment of production of surfactant, reactive changes of bronchial mucosa, and no fibrotic changes in the long-term observation.

[Morphologic and toxicologic evaluation of response to subcutaneous para-osseous implants Medpol-1 and Medpol-2 in rats].

Cobalt alloys produced in Poland and meant for orthopedic implants were morphologically and toxicologically evaluated. They were implanted subcutaneously in the para-osseous region of rats' heads. The results of the experimental tests strongly suggest the advisability of a clinical research project (study) on the examined cobalt alloys: Medpol-1 and Medpol-2.

[Clinical, histopathologic, immunofluorescent and ultrastructural estimation of 2 cases of epidermolysis bullosa acquisita].

Two cases of EBA were presented. Both patients with the symptoms of the disease were previously treated with nonsteroid antiinflammatory drugs. A considerable improvement of the patients condition has been noticed after the application of high doses of glucocorticosteroids. However, there were observed symptoms of a mild post-steroidal diabetes. In the histologically examined biopsies from lesions and from skin without any clinical changes were found subepidermal bulla containing serous fluid, erythrocytes and neutral granulocytes. At the patient no. 1 there were found linear deposits of IgG and fraction of C3 complement in the structure of a basal membrane. Ultrastructural research showed in both cases presence of subepidermal bulla located beneath lamina densa of a basal membrane. In the place of bulla there was observed a visible damage of anchoring fibres and collagen of a papillary layer of inner skin.

Comparison of subacute toxicity of rubidomycine and its four derivatives.

In experiments carried out on Albino-Swiss mice we tried to compare some pharmacological properties of standard compound-rubidomycin with its 4 newly synthetized derivatives. DR-16 appeared to be more toxic compound than rubidomycin and DR-19 was found to possess the lowest toxicity.
