Effort to accredit 'responsible' hospitals gains interest, critics.

An effort to "accredit" the most socially responsible hospitals is gathering interest and support from some institutions. But others say the practice may hurt hospitals that don't make the grade, and the standards may not take into account the cumulative good rendered by all institutions in a market.

Untangling management structures.

Hospital executives looking for ways to cut costs are finding that complex hospital management structures contribute to higher healthcare costs and cumbersome decisionmaking.
