Heteroantisera were raised in rabbits against human thymocytes or Burkitt's lymphoma EBI cells. After suitable absorption, the sera were specific for thymocytes and T lymphoblasts, or B lymphoblasts and several lymphoblastoid cell lines. The specificity of the antisera was confirmed by preparing purified populations of T or B lymphocytes on immunoabsorbent columns, followed by mitogenic stimulation with phytohemagglutinin. The antisera did not react with normal resting lymphocytes.

The cytostatic effects of puromycm, [(6)N]O(2')-dibutyryl 3',5'-adenosine monophosphate, and adenosine on asynchronous and synchronous cultures of the murine mastocytoma, P815Y, have been studied. Cell growth was arrested after a minimum of one further division. A model is proposed for the inhibition of cell division in which the periods of inhibition and growth arrest are separated in time by one cell cycle.

1. The blood volume of the mouse has been measured using (59)Fe-labelled red cells to determine the red cell volume and (131)I-labelled human serum albumin to determine the plasma volume.2. Values for the blood volume of 95.0 +/- 1.5, 96.3 +/- 2.7 and 84.7 +/- 1.2 ml./kg body wt. were found for CSI female, CBA female and CBA male mice respectively.3. A marked discrepancy was observed between the venous (cardiac) haematocrit and the whole body haematocrit.4. The blood volume of the mouse must be determined from the red cell volume and the plasma volume, measured using appropriate labels, and not from the red cell volume or the plasma volume using the venous haematocrit.

One aim of this study was to determine whether a corneal-scleral punch biopsy instrument provides skin specimens of sufficiently uniform size so as to eliminate the need to weigh or measure the specimens in order to provide a reproducible index of the density of Onchocerca volvulus microfilariae in the skin. A second aim was to determine whether the density of microfilariae in the skin varies with the time of day. The reports of others on the latter are contradictory. Duplicate skin specimens were taken from 10 people four times during one day with a corneal-scleral punch biopsy instrument. Each specimen was weighed and measured, and the number of microfilariae were counted. Although the specimens were not of uniform weight or surface area, the number of microfilariae per specimen was as good an index of the density of larvae in the skin as the number of microfilariae per mg, or per mm(2) of skin. This may not be true when other methods of procuring skin specimens are utilized. A universally acceptable standard method is advocated. The density of microfilariae in the skin approximately doubled from morning to midday, and began to decline by early evening.
