By the end of the 19th century, the quantity of scientists of great value was so big that selecting one for the top prize was not easy at all. Opinions were divided, giving rise to the personal controversy depicted in this article.
The dental assistant helps the dentist in many different ways. In many countries, the dental hygienist gathers the professional staff, taking part in a larger technical way in different steps of work in the mouth. Dr. Alfred Fones started in 1913 the first. special course for "Dental Hygienist", being this title created by him. In this article there is a historic study of several schools.
A historical sequence of the initial stages and practice of dental radiology among us, is here depicted. This activity began its manifestation in the 1910's decade and was to be enforced by the Radiology and Physiotherapy Course when doctorate was created at the Dental School of Buenos Aires in 1920. W.C. Röntgen's trascendent discovery, X rays in 1895, is the basic knowledge of the technical amplitude in the present specialty in images diagnosis.
Continuing with the development of endodontics in 19th century, we show some progressive aspects which in the following century have become a rule because of scientific experience.

In this historical synthesis there are described some usual procedures to "kill the nerve", with arsenic; the "Knocking out the pulp" (the surprising destruction of pulpar tissue); and by means of local anaesthesia too.
Scientific progress lines go on developping in that century and at the same time it begins to be drawn the trajectory of the futur dentist, with its usual and popular denomination, since the times of Guy de Chauliac (1363), when he outlined the separation of odontologic knowledges from those of Medicine.
The first steps of Endodontics, and specially those of the 19th century, are hardly known with unpublished and profitable to technical efforts for present specialty. We begin here a series of historic notes about the subject, hoping to know some further information to be provided by other colleagues verses in this matter.
In its 150th anniversaqry, some historic antecedents of its brilliant trajectory are quoted. Since its setting downtown, in 1844, and afterwards in its second building, the Hospital satisfied the necessities of an important community who knew to share and live with others in Buenos Aires - a more that once conflicted city for political problems and for the fortifying of the National Independency.

Treatments and usual therapy are mentioned here, mixed with medical tradition, popular knowledge and superstition. In this century progress of Anatomy is observed, related to the mouth, even though it's remarkable the forgetfulness of Fallopius and Eustachius work. Science getting more organized in academies, saloons, cenacles, was not to offer up to XIXth century its necessary scientific apport to the growing and progressist dental profession.
