Clinical management where medicine meets management. Network solutions.

Sexual health appears to be an ideal candidate for a managed clinical network, although there are doubts about whether networks deliver better patient care. With no dedicated staff, clinicians have to put in much of their own time to establish and run a network. For SWAGNET in south-west London, Inclusion is a problem. HIV teams are large and multidisciplinary--everyone needs to be represented.

Redesigning the diabetes team has meant national service framework targets have been hit. A trained technician has proved as adept in the diabetes review role as clinicians. The role of technician could be adapted to different specialties, such as asthma and coronary heart disease.
