[Gradual disappearance of macular hyalin verrucosities].

Spontaneous gradual absorption of macular colloid bodies can be seen in some patients on retinographies and angiographies routinely made at regular intervals during several years. In some cases the colloid bodies become confluent before resorbing. Confluence of drusen may lead to a large hyalin detachment of the pigment epithelium which should be differienciated from serous detachment. In some other cases small drusens spontaneously disappear without prior confluence. The absorption of samll drusen can lead to a ring shape transitory stage. Usually the natural course eventually leads to a geographic--or areolar--atrophy of the pigment epithelium on the posterior pole.
