Gallstone ileus masquerading as a gastric outlet obstruction.

We have described a patient with gallstone ileus who was initially believed to have a gastric outlet obstruction. Roentgenogram of the abdomen revealed a markedly distended stomach. None of the classic roentgenographic signs of gallstone ileus were present. Old age and diabetes mellitus probably contributed to her severe gastric retention.

Cold water syncope.

Cardiac bradyarrhythmias upon swallowing have been reported previously and most commonly have been related to esophageal abnormalities. We have reported the case of an unusual patient who experiences bradycardia and syncope only upon swallowing cold liquids.
