Urographic changes in acute papillary necrosis in the rat.

Intravenous high-dosage urography was performed in rats which had renal papillary necrosis induced with ethyleneimine or renal tubular necrosis produced with mercuric chloride. In both groups, nephrograms were abnormally persistent. In animals treated with ethyleneimine dense selective opacification of the necrotic renal pyramid occurred. It is suggested that this selective opacification may be a valuable radiological sign of recent renal papillary necrosis.

Myocardial infarction in a neonate.

Extensive myocardial infarction developed in a neonate, apparently as a result of paradoxical embolism from the ductus venosus. It is suggested that in instances of myocardial infarction in the very young this vessel should be examined as a possible source of the embolus.

Histopathological findings in the combined immunity-deficiency syndrome.

The histopathological appearances of the thymus, lymph nodes, spleen, and gut-associated lymphoid tissue (tonsil, Peyer's patches, and appendix) in cases of the combined immunity-deficiency syndrome are presented. The appearance of tissues remaining after foetal thymic transplants and the effects of such transplants on the morphology of lymph nodes are also discussed. Although thymic appearances are remarkably constant the picture in the lymph nodes and spleen may vary considerably. The tonsils, Peyer's patches, and appendix appear to constitute one lymphoid organ in man, at least with regard to the developmental arrest that may occur in this syndrome.

Gastrointestinal lymphoma in childhood.

Thirteen cases of lymphoma of the bowel in infancy and childhood are presented. There is a marked preponderance in males. The tumour most commonly presents with abdominal pain and intestinal obstruction; the prognosis is poor. Histological findings characteristic of the ;Burkitt' type of lymphosarcoma do not apparently influence survival.
