A study was carried out on the incidence of E. coli serogroups 01--025, under different clinical and epidemiologic conditions, with a view to evaluating their etiopathogenic significance and the efficiency of immunofluoresence as a rapid laboratory method of diagnosis. A total number of 1542 samples were collected from humans (1075 feces samples and 467 urine samples from cases of urinary infection), and 387 from animals. The samples were collected from cases of enteritis and from healthy children and adults: 285 samples from infantile enteritis cases; 200 samples from adults with enteritis; 31 samples from healthy children: and 559 samples from healthy adults. These E. coli serogroups were found in humans, in both pathologic and normal conditions. The proportion of isolations of E. coli serogroups 01--025 was greater in the feces samples from healthy subjects than in the samples from enternal or urinary infections (48.80% as against 23.21%), demonstrating the opportunist character of these germs. Positive results were obtained in 30.23% of the products of animal origin (monkeys, dogs, chickens), pointing to the wide spread of these serogroups in nature. Serogroups 04 and 025 were predominant in both the human and animal products. The rapid immunofluorescence diagnosis cannot be applied to these serogroups owing to the multiple and varied antigenic fractions. The laboratory diagnosis can only be established in pure cultures by identification of the groups, by biochemical and serolgic methods, by agglutination reactions on slides and in test tubes.
Sulphasalazine is among the many drugs in the secondary line of antirheumatic efficacy that have both immunosuppressive and auto-inflammatory properties. Twenty-six patients with definite rheumatoid arthritis (RA) were treated for two years with sulphasalazine in a minimum dose of 1 g per day. Four patients presented untoward effects such as: marked physical asthenia, erythema and changes of the dysproteinemia tests which all disappeared when the drug was withdrawn. The first favourable results in the joint inflammation appeared after 4 weeks. Significant clinical and biologic changes were observed at the end of the study thus suggesting the therapeutic value of sulphasalazine in RA.
A study was carried out on the humoral response and vaccinal reaction after repeated administration of the smallpox vaccine (1 to 3 times), at ten days interval, to 97 subjects with a past history of repeated vaccination failures. Revaccination ended in 52.6% failures. After revaccination the antibody titer increased in 97.8% of the cases of successful vaccination and in 43.5% of the negative cases. In 29.5% of the latter cases a decrease in the antibody titer by 1--3 binary dilutions was found. The results suggest that the repeated application at short intervals of an antigenic stimulus perturbs the immune response.
After testing 18 experimental variants against 40 reference strains belonging to different Enterovacteriaceae groups, the authors chose a multitest medium that permits concomitant testing of mobility, indol, lysinedecarboxylase and phenylalanine deaminase (MILP). In this medium, the reactions of 3734 strains belonging to the genera Escherichia, Shigella. Salmonella, Citrobacter, Klebsiella, Enterobacter, Serratia. Proteus and Providencia were concordant with the reactions in individual test media, taking as reference, in a proportion of 99.7 and 100%. The authors, associating the MILP medium to TSI agar, propose a simple scheme consisting of eight test which permits, within only 24 hours, the correct identification of the genus and sometimes of the species of cultures or isolated colonies from selective media.
We present the case of a 50-year old patient with left tumoral pelviabdominal formation of the size of a foetus head. The histological study performed on sections from different areas of the tumour enabled the establishment of the diagnosis of mucinous cystadenocarcinofibroma of enteroid type with undifferentiated mucipar areas with ring in seal. The contralateral ovary was unaffected.

Cyclosporin A (CyA) was administered in 6 cases of classical or definite, seropositive rheumatoid arthritis (RA), stages II or III, resistant to the antiinflammatory or nonsteroid therapy, or dependent on high Prednisone doses. An intramuscular daily dose of 1.5 g CyA for a three-week period had good clinical and biologic results. The first signs of improvement, occurring after 14 days of therapy, were manifested by a reduction of the articular inflammation, increase in amplitude of the articular mobility, decrease of the morning stiffness and lowering of the ESR rate. The short-term application of this treatment permits the reintroduction of the nonsteroid drugs and a lowering of the daily dose of Prednisone.

In connection with two case reports of connectivities associated with marked vascular lesions, difficult to classify, the authors are reviewing the available data on the role played by vasculitis in the pathogeny of such pathologic states. The chronologic relationship between the occurrence of the systemic vascular involvement and the sensitization to certain drugs, as well as the exposure to various antigens and infections, have suggested the concept of hypersensitization or development of immune disorders with important pathogenic role in these connectivites. The immunodepressive genetic factors, either inborn or acquired, might influence the release and activation of certain slow viruses. These recent discoveries are opening new prospects for an effective etiopathogenic treatment in such diseases.

The antirheumatic effect of a new nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drug, irritren, a derivative of arylacetic acid namely ionazolac calcium was studied. The favourable effect of irritren treatment in reactivated arthrosis was compared to that of indomethacin. To this end 40 patients were divided into two groups of 20 patients each who were treated for 14 days with: irritren in daily doses of 3 X 200 mg-Group I, and with indomethacin in daily doses of 3 X 25 mg-group II. The results obtained at the end of the experiment showed a marked decrease of joint pain and of inflammation in 85% of the patients in group I while in group II good results were obtained in only 75% of the patients. The excellent digestive tolerance and the absence of untoward side effects situated irritren as clearly superior to indomethacin. The drug appeared as most useful especially in reactivated arthritic diseases.
From 50 cases of polyarthritis with febrile onset, 3 were found with serum positive Yersinia pseudotuberculosis (YPT) at a titer higher than 1/100. Reactive polyarthritis with gram-negative germs (YPT) serologic type I, involved in their etiology have been rarely encountered especially in North Europe and in the Far East. Though the 3YPT positive cases mentioned above, presented on admission particularly severe forms of joint inflammation, under therapy with Tetracycline and Phenylbutazone derivatives the articular inflammations were cured without relapses in the 6 months of investigations.
