[Enlargement of the cerebral ventricles and cognitive efficiency in chronic schizophrenia].

The cerebral ventricular size of 15 patients with chronic schizophrenia and 20 age and sex matched controls, has been measured on the basis of the TC scan examination. The schizophrenic patients underwent also a psychometric evaluation by means the WAIS and PM 38 tests. The ventricular size was larger in patients than in normal controls. A significant positive correlation between ventricular measures and the PM 38, some WAIS' sub-tests scores and WAIS Det. % index has been demonstrated and discussed.

[Ischemic stroke in the young adult].

Ischemic stroke is uncommon in young adults, and its etiologies and prognosis are different from those verified in the cerebrovascular disease of old age. Atherosclerosis is the main cause of stroke in the elderly, while emboligenous cardiopathy is one of the main mechanism underlying this pathology in young adults. Other etiologies include atherosclerosis, coagulopathies, vasculitides, arterial dissection and migraine. Ischemic stroke in young adults must thus be studied with a different protocol from that used for the elderly.
