A comparative study between direct testicular and pedal lymphography in dogs. (A preliminary report).

In 20 dogs, 12 bilateral and 8 unilateral pedal and direct testicular lymphographies were performed. Comparison between the two methods showed that pedal lymphography failed to visualize some of the regional lymph nodes of the testicle. Histological examinations of the excised testicles two months after the injection of the contrast material failed to show any significant abnormalities. The potential applications of direct testicular lymphography are discussed.

Diagnostic and therapeutic problems in Cushing's syndrome. Series of 7 cases.

A series of 7 patients (all females) with Cushing's syndrome are presented. The syndrome was due to an adenoma of the cortex in 4 cases, to a carcinoma in 1 and to bilateral adrenal hyperplasia in another. In the 7th patient the cortical hyperplasia was due to a bronchogenic carcinoma (ectopic production of ACTH). Surgery was performed in all patients except 1. In 5 patients (adenoma, carcinoma) the diseased adrenal was removed. In 1 patient a left total and a right subtotal adrenalectomy were performed. Out of those 7 patients 4 survived and 3 died. 1 died a few hours after surgery, another 3 months after operation and the last one was never operated on.

Transcatheter arterial embolization in the management of tumours of the urinary tract.

The technique of transcatheter arterial embolization in the management of malignant tumours of the urinary tract and in particular of the kidneys and bladder is described. The results in a series of 10 patients (9 with hypernephroma and 1 with a carcinoma of the bladder) are analyzed and the advantages as well as the dangers of this method in the management of operable and nonoperable tumours of the kidneys are discussed.

Unusual presentation of testicular torsion. A review of 40 cases.

The symptomatology of testicular torsion was atypical in 16 patients among the 40 that we treated. The occurrence of fever together with the torsion (8 cases), the existence of intense local inflammatory signs (16 cases), its occurrence in adults (23 cases), ectopic testicle (2 cases), and the possibility of a traumatism (5 cases) are misleading and may delay its urgent surgical treatment. In most cases, testicular torsion forms a characteristic clinical picture with easy diagnosis, requiring most urgent operation. There are, however, cases where symptomatology is atypical and deceptive forms delay recognition of the torsion, leading to ischaemic necrosis.
