This completely randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicentre trial was carried out to evaluate the antitussive activity and safety of a 200 mg t.i.d. regimen of moguisteine (20 mg/ml ready-to-use suspension) during four days in patients with cough associated to chronic respiratory disorders. A total of 87 patients were enrolled, 42 on moguisteine and 45 on placebo. All had persistent dry or slightly productive coughs associated with chronic respiratory disorders. Seventy three were submitted to per protocol efficacy analyses, and eighty-three to intention-to-treat efficacy analyses. All the patients who were administered the study drug were analysed for safety. The underlying disorders reported as being associated with the target symptom were chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, cough of unknown aetiology, respiratory tract malignant neoplasms and pulmonary fibrosis. The treatment groups appeared to have been homogeneous on admission. The number of coughs in the interval 8-10 a.m. on day four vs day one was reduced by 42% on moguisteine against 14% on placebo; the difference between treatments was statistically significant (p = 0.028). The mean percent reduction of ladder scale scores of cough frequency vs baseline was greater on moguisteine than on placebo both in the day-time (especially on days one and two), and at night. The antitussive activity of moguisteine did not show remarkable variations either by diagnosis or by type of cough (dry/slightly productive). No serious adverse events were reported. No changes/trends were identified in laboratory tests that might indicate functional or toxic effects of moguisteine on specific organs.
An experimental study on 30 hemimandibles in which sagittal osteotomy of the ramus was performed, after cleansing of the mandibular canal and filling it with wax, shows how inferior alveolar nerve lesions can occur. The use of a fine spatula is advocated for the splitting, in order to reduce the number of nerve lesions.
197 Hg Cl2 (mercuric dichloride) was used in the diagnosis of 30 cases of epidermoid carcinoma of the head and the neck, and in 5 cases of benign tumours and non-neoplastic lesions. The results show that radioisotope scanning is not a certain method of diagnosis but that it affords supplementary information essential to correct therapy.

The Authors are stating the importance of prevention in Dentistry so as to stop anomalies of jaws and teeth of from forming. They mean therapy all those measures to use with simple means, both surgical and Orthopedic, and them detting its limits and possibilities. A classification is being proposed which will divide them into prophylaxis, prevention, interseption, and early therapy.
The aim of this study is to verify the psychological attitude and the quality of life in patients suffering from chronic respiratory insufficiency. Taking for granted that a bad quality of life is connected with the symptom of a depressed state (loss of appetite, quality of sleep, sexuality, psychomotor slowing down, loss of energy, weariness, reduced interest for the external world, feelings of self-devaluation, reduced working and concentration capacity, complainings of turning over type) we have taken as index of "normal quality of life" the lack of these attitudes correlating them to the clinical symptoms and/or the patient's functional troubles and verifying how much they can affect the psychological features and how much the deterioration of the quality of life. For this reason a questionnaire, taken from the MMPI test (Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory), restricted to the items related to the D scale (depression scale), has been given to one hundred COPD patients who had been examined previously from a clinical functional point of view. In the end, we have drawn our results both on the ground of the answers given by the patients to the single questions and on the grounds of the total score D (= depression index) and relating the previous data with the clinical-functional ones. Finally we have compareted these data with those ones connected with non selected population. So we have succeeded in outlining a psychophysical profile of the patient suffering from chronic respiratory diseases. Such a profile is marked by an objective element, that is pathology, and by a psychological element inserted into the organic one as there is an inter-dependence between pathology and psychological features. From the collected data, we have noted the behavioural spheres which are more upset are working capacities, sleep and mood and these features are directly proportional to the seriousness of the pathology. From a practical and therapeutic point of view, all this can be of great importance.
Highly, averagely and lightly viscous contrast media most frequently used in radiography of the salivary glands have been compared. It is concluded that the preparation which has so far given the best results is liposoluble but averagely viscous and not too contrasting.
Reference is made to the increasing number and severity of orbito-zygomatico-malar fractures brought about by the greater number of vehicles on the orads and their higher speeds. Fracture lines in such cases very considerably. An account is given of the therapeutical approaches usually followed at the Parma University Odontostomatological Clinic, based on experience acquired in 275 cases.

The authors used Bleomycin Co57 in diagnosing melanoma and their metastases in 15 carriers of such neoplasms and also in 7 carriers of benign lesions who were chosen as controls. On the basis of the results obtained, the authors assert that x-ray tests using Bleomycin Co57 do not guarantee certain clinical diagnosis of melanoma. However, it can serve as useful corollary of information which is indispensable to any correct and radical therapeutic treatment.
