Addressing multigenerational conflict: mutual respect and carefronting as strategy.

This article addresses the challenges faced by nurses as they work side-by-side with nurses from a variety of generational cohorts. First a brief overview of the generational characteristics of the four generational cohorts in today's workplace is presented. Next the importance of each nurse using respect and carefronting as antidotes to generational conflict is discussed. Finally the role of nursing leadership in facilitating respect and carefronting is noted.

Unlicensed assistive personnel retention and realistic job previews.

There is a rich literature addressing employee turnover and retention. Research demonstrates that realistic job previews increase employee retention by fostering development of realistic job expectations that match job and organization requirements. Realistic job previews use may be an effective strategy to decrease unlicensed assistive personnel turnover and increase retention.$

ANCC certification: personal and professional affirmation.

Certification is sited as one way of demonstrating competency. There are currently many reasons for pursuing certification, including personal satisfaction, validation of one's ability to effectively fulfill leadership roles, and to augment organizational efforts to become an ANCC Magnet Hospital. Regardless of the reason, achieving certification requires preparation and completion of an examination. Cary (2001) notes there are 4 avenues through which certification status can be recognized: public acknowledgement, financial compensation, career advancement, and retention. Colleagues who complete this process desire and deserve to be acknowledged and affirmed. Do you recognize colleagues in the attached list of ANCC certified nurses?
