[The combination of fractures of the lower extremity and lesion of the posterior cruciate ligament].

In 400 fractures of the upper and lower leg, 7 patients had an additional lesion of the posterior cruciate ligament. This combination occurs in people, who had a high energy frontal impact in the sitting position. The ligamenteous injury is often overlooked because of multiple injuries and difficulty in examination of a knee joint on a fractured leg. In high velocity injuries of the lower extremity, knee and hip joint injuries must not be overlooked. The diagnosis of knee injury can be made by inspection and palpation of a joint effusion and by a knee joint X-ray, which shows an avulsion fracture of the dorsal tibial spine. Repair is recommended within the first 3 weeks if possible. Later, scarring in the subluxed position and osteoporosis of the fragment will make a reconstruction very difficult.

Techniques of osteosynthesis of pathological fractures due to skeletal metastases.

In using internal fixation in the treatment of fractures due to skeletal metastases the objective is to obtain rapid rehabilitation of the patient. The fixation must therefore be particularly stable and it is consequently often necessary to use acrylic cement. This treatment aims to alleviate pain, to shorten the time spent in hospital, and to restore the patient, as far as possible, to his social background, so alleviating the psychological suffering that complicates such disease states. The elective techniques for the various skeletal segments affected are reported, based on 64 cases of osteosynthesis and 26 prosthetic substitutions.

[A fixation apparatus for differential indication on fibular band lesions].

Description of a new radiological technique for examination of lesions of the lateral ligaments of the ankle. With this method it is possible to make differential diagnosis. The drawer sign of the talus is measured. In contrast with conventional stress a.-p. roentgenograms it is also possible to detect isolated tears of the anterior talo-fibular ligament. Additional advantages of the method are no X-ray exposure for the examiner, local anaesthesia is not required and the results are reproducible independent of the examiner.

[Combined traumatic rupture of the rotator cuff and nerve lesions (author's transl)].

Traumatic damage to the rotator cuff was diagnosed in 13 patients by clinical, electromyographic and arthrographic studies. The main features were failure to rotate, elevate or abduct the affected shoulder joint. Eight patients also had peripheral nerve lesions: axillary nerve lesion was present in five, partial brachial plexus lesion in three.
