Visor/sandwich osteotomy. Progress report.

Modification of the visor/sandwich osteotomy in treating the atrophic mandible is described as a one stage osteotomy-sulcoplasty procedure. Seven cases, with a vertical dimension of 10 mm or less in the premolar region, were assessed over a 12-month post-operative period. Vertical measurements were obtained clinically and cephalometrically, from the symphysis and premolar regions. The rates of resorption varied considerably in each area and were most marked in the first 3 months post-operatively.

Multiple and total mandibular alveolar osteotomy.

Surgical movement of teeth by alveolar osteotomy is described as a method of restoring occlusion. The use and advantages of metal "cap" splints is considered in the treatment of multiple and total segmental osteotomies of the mandibular alveolus.

Free full thickness mucosal grafts in the mouth.

Examples of full thickness mucosal grafts used in sulcoplasty and the closure of defects in the tongue and cheek following tumour ablation are shown and the techniques in their use are demonstrated. The problems and advantages in this are considered.
