Control of BK virus antibodies in contacts of patients under chronic hemodialysis or after renal transplantation (by an enzyme linked immunosorbent assay).

Elisa technique for IgG humoral BK virus antibodies titration is not time consuming, not expensive and brings results in accordance with those obtained by HI. It was observed among adults attending patients in chronic hemodialysis and renal transplantation centers an antibody level similar to observed titers in control subjects.

Renal transplantation and viral infections. IV. A survey of herpes simplex virus excretion in relation to cellular specific immunity and humoral immunity among renal transplant recipients.

Fourteen renal transplant recipients were screened systematically for HVH virus infection, cellular and humoral HVH immunity and general cellular immunity evaluated by PHA response. This study demonstrates significant correlation between humoral and cellular responses to HVH before graft and virus isolation after graft. This virus excretion occurred simultaneously with a PHA response peak. Neither significant drops in cellular general or specific HVH immune response nor correlation between acute rejection episode and any studied parameters were observed.

[Sensitivity and specificity of the passive hemagglutination reaction applied to titration of herpes antibodies].

52 human sera were checked for herpes virus hominis type 1 antibodies by passive hemagglutination, complement fixation, neutralization tests and plaque reduction in presence of complement. A good correlation was observed among the results obtained by the passive hemagglutination test and the plaque reduction in presence of complement. The rapidity of the indirect hemagglutination test and the sensitivity of the reaction are in favour of its routine use.

Epidemiology of dermatophytoses in children living in northeast France: a 5-year study.

Dermatologic fungal infections are thought to occur less frequently in children than in adults. This study, performed over a 5-year period, emphasizes the interregional variability of dermatophytes that cause skin and cutaneous apprendageal diseases in children. In northeast France, two-thirds of dermatophytoses are due to zoophilic fungi, while they are most commonly caused by anthropophilic agents in the Paris region and in other countries. The clinical features of pediatric dermatophytoses vary with the age of the child: tinea capitis and tinea corporis are far more frequent before the age of 12 years. After the age of 12, even if these are still quite frequent, tinea pedis and onychomycosis become more common.

Prevalence of serum antibodies to herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2: application of an ELISA technique to 100 cases of anogenital herpes.

Sera of 100 patients affected by anogenital herpes were tested by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) technique using partially purified antigens obtained by extraction from the nuclei of infected Vero cells. Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) was isolated from the anogenital lesions of 17 patients and herpes simplex virus type 2 (HSV-2) from 83 patients. The relative proportions of antibody of the IgG class to HSV-1 and HSV-2 were determined and their ratio (R) was calculated, except for 23 patients for whom the corrected optical density (COD) obtained for HSV-1 or HSV-2 antibody was less than the lower value limit of 0.025. A predominance of HSV-2 antibody (R less than 1) was found in 40 patients and was uniformly associated with isolation of HSV-2, whereas a predominance of HSV-1 antibody (R greater than 1) in 37 patients was found in the presence of infection with HSV-1 in 11 (30%) and with HSV-2 in 26 (70%) patients. This study also confirms the association of a higher frequency of recurrences with HSV-2: among the 55 patients with recurrent herpes, those from whom HSV-2 was isolated had a history of more recurrences than those infected with HSV-1 (P less than 0.05; Mann and Whitney's nonparametric test). No correlation between the number of recurrences and the level of HSV-2 antibody was found.

[Evaluation of the Immulite 2000 Toxoplasma quantitative IgG et Toxoplasma IgM for the diagnosis of human toxoplasmosis].

Four hundred and ninety five human sera with clinical and biological data were tested for the evaluation of Immulite 2000 Toxoplasma Quantitative IgG and Immulite 2000 Toxoplasma IgM produced by Diagnostic Products Corporation (Los Angeles, USA) for the diagnosis of human toxoplasmosis. The results of these kits were compared to those of the University Hospital of Nancy where the reference assays were Enzygnost Toxoplasmosis IgG and Enzygnost Toxoplasmosis IgM (Berhing-Dade, Germany), Toxoscreen (bioMérieux, France), ISAgA Plus (IgM et IgA) (bioMérieux, France). The sensitivity and the specificity of IgG detection by Immulite 2000 Toxoplasma Quantitative IgG were 98% and 100%, respectively. The high sensitivity of IgM detection by Immulite 2000 Toxoplasma IgM was adapted to the early diagnosis of toxoplasmic primo-infection and to the pediatric diagnosis or follow-up of congenital toxoplasmosis but could reveal IgM a long time after primary infection.

Experimental urinary tract infection in rabbits by a group D Streptococcus sp.: a study of serum immunoglobulin classes by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

After induction of pyelonephritis and cystitis in rabbits by a group D streptococcus, the authors measured the specific serum antibody response in the three major immunoglobulin classes. The enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was performed using group D streptococcal antigen extracted by phenol. Before experimentation, all rabbits had low IgM, IgG and IgA titres against group D streptococcal antigen. A marked increase in IgM antibodies was detected during the first month of experimental pyelonephritis. A poor IgM antibody response was observed in rabbits with cystitis. During the three months of experimentation, a significant difference in mean IgG levels was observed between rabbits with pyelonephritis and those with cystitis.
