The influence of oxytocin on the fibrillation thresholds in rabbits.

The intravenous infusion of oxytocin in urethane anaesthetized rabbits induced marked increases of both atrial and ventricular fibrillation threshold. The heart rate and the arterial blood pressure (BP) diminished. Since there was no parallelism between the fibrillation threshold changes and those of heart rate and BP, it might be concluded that the changes of the fibrillation thresholds were very likely primary, i.e. they were due to the modifications of the electrophysiological properties of the heart. The intravenous infusion of 0.5% chlorbutol , a preservant widely used in many commercial preparations induced only minor changes of the investigated parameters.

Effects of alpha-methylnoradrenaline and alpha-methyldopamine in reserpine-induced ulcers in rats.

alpha-Methyldopamine and alpha-methylnoradrenaline administered intraperitoneally afforded significant protection in reserpine-induced ulcers in rats. The optimal doses were 2 and 4 mg/kg. Lower and higher doses were less effective. alpha-Methyldopamine and alpha-methyl-noradrenaline probably act by reestablishing the normal adrenergic tone which is diminished in reserpine-induced ulcers.

Intracarotidal injection of beta-adrenergic blocking agents: variations in the carotid sinus baro- and chemoreceptor activity.

The intracarotidal injection of some bet-adrenergic blocking agents (dl-acebutolol, dl-, l-, d-alprenolol, dl-bunitrolol, dl-buthoxamine, dl-, l-, d-INPEA, dl-Ko 592, dl-metoprolol, dl-oxprenolol, dl-propranolol, dl-tolamolol) in anesthetized and bivagotomized dogs reduced the arterial blood pressure and the baro- and chemoreceptor activity. These effects seem to be mediated by an interaction with central nervous, cardiovascular and respiratory structures dependent on the carotid arteries and by a direct interference of these drugs with the carotid sinus baro- and chemoreceptor structures. Moreover, these effects were not a result of the beta-adrenolytic properties of the drugs.

Effects of intravenous infusion of CaCl2 on the fibrillation thresholds in rabbits.

A study on the atrial and ventricular fibrillation thresholds performed in urethane anaesthetized rabbits showed that no significant change occurred until blood pressure was reduced to 40% of the initial value. Bilateral cervical vagotomy and the administration of propantheline did not affect these changes. (DL) propranolol (0.2 mg/kg i.v.) "unmasked" a tendency of CaCl2 to elevate the fibrillation threshold; it also increased the lethal calcium level.
