[Disorders of carbohydrate metabolism in severe fibrou-inflammatory pancreatic changes].

22 patients with bioptically found severe fibrou inflammatory changes of the pancreas underwent an after examination in order to exclude endocrine disturbances of the pancreas. The biopsy of the pancreas was carried out during an operation of the bile-duct. A restriction of the glucose tolerance was to be proved the more frequently the more distinct were the histological changes of the pancreas and the older were the patients. Post-operative increases of the fasting blood sugar appeared above all transitorily and rarely led to a manifestation of diabetes. It is recommended to exclude an endocrine functional disturbance of the pancreas not only when a typical symptomatology of pancreatitis is present, but also when there are possibly clinically not expected bioptical findings of a severe fibrous inflammatory change of the pancreas.

[The replacement of skim milk in the diet of young pigs with an extremely short suckling period. 3. Report. Use of liquid substitute feed on the basis of skim milk, fish meal and wheat under production conditions].

A trial was performed in which 273 piglets received a liquid milk diet between the 12th and 30th day of age. This was compared with a liquid experimental diet, in which 60% of the milk was replaced by fish meal and wheat. Both diets were given as sole feed under practical feeding conditions. The experimental diet produced a weight increase of 81,9% relative to that of the milk diet; milk consumption was 53.7% the required amount of dry matter 117.4%, milk consumption per kg of weight gain 61.5% and expenditure on feed per kg of weight gain 78%. The general growth development of the piglets was quite good irrespective of the different rates of weight increase. The weight gains after 30 days were 6.6 kg+/-1.5 kg for the experimental diet and 7.0 kg+/-1.2 kg for the milk diet. Losses among the piglets amounted to 0.7% and 2.9%. On the basis of the results of the present trial and of previous experiments the authors believe that under practical conditions of feeding 50% of the milk contained in a liquid milk diet fed to piglets that are 12 to 30 days of age could be replaced by wheat and fish meal.

[The replacement of skim milk in the diet of young pigs with an extremely short suckling period. 1. Report. A comparison of skim milk, fish meal and extracted soy beans as a protein source in conjunction with whole wheat meal in a liquid feed].

40 piglets were reared in separate cages from the 13th to the 28th day of age and received a liquid milk diet (controls) or a substituted liquid diet. Half of the protein requirements of the young pigs were covered from skim milk, the other half was supplied through fish meal, extracted soya bean meal or a combination of both meals. Whole wheat meal was used as source of substitution energy. The ration containing extracted soya bean meal reduced all the digestibility coefficients with the exception of NFE. As a result, the levels of energy and nutrient intake and the rates of weight increase were lower in the experimental groups receiving the soya bean meal diet than in the control group. The same performance level as with the control diet was achieved when 50% of the skim milk in the experimental diet were replaced by wheat and fish meal.

[The replacement of skim milk in the diet of young pigs with an extremely short suckling period. 2. Report. Replacement of skim milk by fish meal and wheat in various ways and use of wheat in crude or boiled form in a liquid feed].

15 trials were carried out with 600 young pigs receiving a type of liquid skim milk diet from the 12th to the 28th day of age. 0% to 75% of the proportion of dietary milk were replaced by wheat and fish meal. The experimental rations used in the trial exhibited a high digestibility of crude nutrients. No transitional feeding period was necessary between the feeding of the milk diet and that of the substituted ration. Whole meal from crude wheat was found to be equivalent in quality to whole meal made from cooked wheat. A liquid feed in which about 50% of the dietary milk is replaced by wheat and fish meal is well suited for being fed to young pigs when these are between 13 and 28 days of age.

Comparative karyometric studies on small pseudolobuli and hepatomas in thioacetamide induced liver cirrhosis.

In the tumorous phase of TAA-induced cirrhosis of the liver comparative studies on the mitotic index, on the frequency of binucleated liver cells and on nuclear volume showed approximately similar values in the small pseudolobuli and in several hepatomas. Obviously "minimum deviation hepatomas" had developed. Decrease of ploidy characteristic for hepatomas was observed. In thioacetamide hepatomas the phenomenon of quadrupling of the cell nuclei due to dysfunctional nuclear edema occurred whereas the normal nuclei of liver cells can only double in volume in all phases of thioacetamide-intoxication. Particular karyometric aspects of the nuclear-nucleolar metabolism of hepatoma cells following thioacetamide intoxication are discussed.

[Female genital actinomycosis].

A case of primary endogenous genitalactinomycosis with an IUD in situ is reported. 200 cases of actinomycosis of the female genital organs have so far been reported in literature. The mode of infection are discussed. In this case the ascension from the vagina and uterus are most probable. The treatement completely cured the patient.
